The X Factor Australia 2014 Winner Revealed (VIDEO)

By Nick Roman ·

The winner of The X Factor Australia 2014 Grand Final was revealed on Monday, October 20, 2014.

It was the tightest result in The X Factor Australia history. It was so close.

The grand finalists were: Marlisa Punzalan from Glendenning, New South Wales and Dean Ray from Melbourne, Victoria, and Brothers 3 from Mudgee, New South Wales.

But before we could find out who won The X Factor Australia 2014, we had to find out who finished in third place. The result may surprise you...

That result left us with Dean Ray and Marlisa Punzalan as the final two contestants this season on The X Factor Australia, two finalists who've been at or near the top of the proverbial leaderboard throughout the competition. Both have one Bottom 2 appearance to their names, leaving this pretty evenly matched.

The winner of The X Factor Australia 2014 is: Marlisa Punzalan!

Congratulations!

Marlisa sang 'Stand By You' as her winner's single.

She won a recording contract from Sony Music Australia. Her self-titled debut album, Marlisa, will be released on November 7, 2014.

RICKEY'S THOUGHTS

What a talent! This result was kinda amazing as Marlisa was in the Bottom 2 just last week. Such a dramatic ending to the season.

Congratulations Team Ronan Keating and the Under 25 Girls!

And that's not all! It was a packed Grand Final with performances from the Top 13 finalists, Guy Sebastian, Olly Murs, Taylor Swift and Jessica Mauboy! Watch the performances below:

The Top 13 sings 'Dark Horse' by Katy Perry and Juicy J

Olly Murs sings 'Wrapped Up'

Jessica Mauboy sings 'Can I Get A Moment?'

Guy Sebastian sings 'Mama Ain't Proud

Dean Ray and Marlisa Punzalan sing 'Beneath Your Beautiful'

Taylor Swift sings 'Shake It Off'

NICK'S THOUGHTS

Personally, I was rooting for Dean, but I have no problem with this result whatsoever. Marlisa has been an absolute joy to watch this season, and became one of the best all-around performers The X Factor Australia has had in ages just in terms of sheer singing ability. I think Marlisa is a terrific winner, and Dean showed himself to be a class act in defeat. This is one of my favorite winning moments, to boot, from Marlisa's nervous hopefulness, to her disbelieving joy, and the winning performance. I just loved all of this, and thought it was a perfect capper to a season that'll probably grow in stature in memory. And even if it doesn't, at least we'll remember we had a good winner.

But what do you think? Did the right act win The X Factor Australia 2014? Sound off in the comments!

Thanks for joining us this season for The X Factor Australia! It's been a blast!
