Joan Rivers family contemplates Lawsuit over botched surgery - Report
The family of Joan Rivers is contemplating a lawsuit against Yorkville Endoscopy, the NY Daily News reported on Monday citing a source close to the family.
On Thursday, the 81-year-old comedienne was at the New York facility for an outpatient throat procedure when she stopped breathing. She is currently on life support in critical but stable condition at Mount Sinai hospital.
The source said:
"Shock and upset is turning to anger, and they are looking for someone to blame. The night before, she was performing and now she is on life support. An 81-year-old should not have that procedure as an outpatient. Very ill-advised."
Doctors have begun lifting Joan Rivers from a medically induced coma last Sunday and are waiting to see how she responds.
Our thoughts have been with Joan since the start of this ordeal and I am keeping my fingers crossed that she pulls through.
Regarding this potential lawsuit, patients sign a consent form before a procedure so the family may have to prove negligence on the part of the doctors and the facility. I think the most important task at hand however is to give Joan the best care.
A couple of months ago, Joan Rivers joked about death on The Tonight Show starring Jimmy Fallon:
