Paul Rudd + Jon Hamm Had a Trivial Pursuit Competition Over a Girl
Once upon a time, back when they were much younger men (read: teenagers), Paul Rudd and Jon Hamm competed in a game of trivial pursuit to win over the same young lady.
Read: the luckiest lady.
The anecdote was revealed in Vanity Fair's June profile of Jon Hamm and went a little something like this... Hamm took Sarah Clarke (his friend Preston Clarke's sister) to prom in high school, but after meeting Rudd who was her brother's roommate in college they hit it off.Things got heated when Rudd visited the family in St. Louis, where Hamm also happened to be.
Recalls Preston, "I thought he was coming to visit me, but obviously he was coming to visit my sister. Hamm was there because he was always at my house. And Paul knew that Jon had taken Sarah to prom. He was slightly intimidated. And then we started playing Trivial Pursuit."
Added Rudd of the experience, "He seemed like he was a good-looking, athletic guy who possessed qualities I did not possess. We were playing Trivial Pursuit in teams. Sarah and I were on one team and Jon and Preston were on the other team."
"Jon would want to go right to Yellow, which was History, and I was like, 'Oh, great, this guy is smart too.' They would ask a question like 'What is the largest lake in Africa?,' and Jon immediately went, 'Lake Victoria.' I felt so emasculated in the game that, as a result, I started reading atlases."
Sadly, the profile doesn't reveal who won the lady, but Hamm didn't have the best track record with the ladies in the '90s so maybe Paul Rudd was victorious.
After all, we heard you get paid to sleep with him.
