'Zombieland 2' Is Finally Moving Forward

After years on the shelf, Sony Pictures has decided they need a surefire hit. So they've decided to fast-track Zombieland 2 with feverish urgency.

The studio just hired The Expendables and Godzilla scribe Dave Callaham to write the sequel. Callaham earned the job after Sony execs caught glimpse of the Focus Features release Jackpot, Callaham's darkly humorous take on the life of Swedish crime writer Jo Nesbo.

Callaham will write the script under the supervision of Ruben Fleischer, who directed the original 2009 hit. Fleischer will return to direct Zombieland 2, although studio insiders insist that no official deal is in place. However, it stands to reason they would bring Fleischer back if they could, since the original grossed over $100 million worldwide.

It's unknown, however, if any of the original cast members will be back, since most of them are far more famous now than they were back in 2009. Between his Oscar nomination for The Social Network and his upcoming role as Lex Luthor in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, Jesse Eisenberg likely isn't going to come cheap. Nor will Emma Stone, who's been a Hollywood "It Girl" for years now. And Woody Harrelson is arguably more popular than he's ever been, thanks to his work on True Detective. But I'm not sure they necessarily need to come back, since the Zombieland franchise could potentially work as an anthology-type series. If nothing else, a big-screen sequel has the potential to play out better than that failed Amazon pilot that was quickly canned.

So what do you think of a possible Zombieland sequel? Yea or Nay? Sound off in the comments!
