Zach Galifianakis and Louis C.K. Clown Show Picked Up by FX

Zach Galifianakis will be clowning around at FX with the help of executive producer Louis C.K.

The network has picked up Baskets. The show is co-created and executive produced by Louis C.K., Jonathan Krisel, and Galifianakis, who stars as Chip Baskets, "a man who leaves his job in the corporate world to pursue his dreams of becoming a respected clown."

Production on the 10-episode sitcom is scheduled to start next year from a script co-written by Galifianakis, C.K., and Krisel, who directed the pilot. Baskets is being produced with an intended premiere date sometime in 2016.

“Zach Galifianakis, Louis C.K. and Jonathan Krisel have created an absolutely brilliant show,” said Eric Schrier, co-president of original programming for FX Networks and FX Productions. “To say Zach’s portrayal of the lead character Chip Baskets is hilarious/unique/riveting/fascinating would be an understatement. We can’t wait for the world to meet him.”

All in all, this is some pretty great news for FX's original comedy lineup. Louis C.K. is one of the funniest men working today (and his gifts as a writer actually exceed his talents as a performer, in my opinion), and Galifianakis is a comedic talent who has no problem going for broke. That kind of energy is golden to a project like this, which will require a star who's got no problem looking ridiculous. Count me among those excited for this show.
