You Can Now Use Facebook To Serve Divorce Papers
In a landmark ruling, a judge in Manhattan is allowing a woman to serve divorce papers to her elusive husband via Facebook message.
Ellanora Baidoo is divorcing Victor Sena Blood-Dzraku, but Blood-Dzraku only keeps in touch with her via Facebook and phone. His last known address was vacated in 2011.
The couple got married in a civil ceremony in 2009 but their relationship deteriorated when Blood-Dzraku reneged on a traditional Ghanan wedding. The wedding was never consummated and they did not live together. Blood-Dzraku however refuses to get a divorce.
From NY Daily News:
In a landmark ruling, Manhattan Supreme Court Justice Matthew Cooper is allowing a nurse named Ellanora Baidoo to serve her elusive husband with divorce papers via a Facebook message.Baidoo, 26, “is granted permission serve defendant with the divorce summons using a private message through Facebook,” with her lawyer messaging Victor Sena Blood-Dzraku through her account, Cooper wrote.
“This transmittal shall be repeated by plaintiff’s attorney to defendant once a week for three consecutive weeks or until acknowledged” by her hard-to-find hubby.
Here's hoping that Baidoo can finally change her status to "single" legally.
Victor Sena Blood-Dzraku, seen in a Facebook photo, apparently has no fixed address and has only kept in touch with his wife by phone and the social networking site. (Facebook)
