It hasn't even be 24 hours since Alex and Sierra won Season 3 of The X Factor USA, but the couple is already taking the media by storm, fielding interviews from a variety of different outlets to discuss their reaction to winning the title, as well as the $1 million Sony recording contract.
In an interview with Zap2It, Alex and Sierra discussed their victory, as well as their emotional coronation performance. Surprisingly, despite all the tears, the couple approached the performance as if it were just another week in the competition.
"It kind of felt like just another performance," said Sierra Deaton backstage after the victory. "Like, 'OK, we made it through another week. Yeah!'"
Alex Kinsey, however, was the one who was quickly overcome with emotion as they performed "Say Something," the song that arguably brought them to wider public attention during the competition, landing them at No. 1 on iTunes. Kinsey explains that his breakdown was a culmination of different factors.
"I was all right," says Alex. "I was like 'Man, this is going to be OK,' but then the song started and all those blue lights in the audience, and I don't know. It just really got me. It was really, really overwhelming."
During the song, Sierra comforted Alex and wiped away his tears, which was a bit of a departure for the girl who spent a fair portion of the competition overcome with emotion herself. However, while Sierra remained strong throughout the first half of the coronation, all bets were off once the other twelve acts in the Top 13 rushed the stage. "That's when I lost it," Sierra reflects.
Alex added, "When we were just engulfed in a sea of white, all the white outfits and stuff, and Restless Road was bawling in our arms, and I'm bawling in Colton's arms, it was so emotional. It was so cool though. That was honestly probably one of my favorite moments of all time."
But now that the celebration is over, the hard work begins all over again. While they get to spend the holidays at home with their families, they're expected to head back to Los Angeles immediately afterwards to begin work on their debut album. And the pair wouldn't have it any other way.
"We're going to come out here for as long as the album takes," Alex says. "We're going to make sure that we do it right and do it quick and get it out so people don't get cold with us." However, Sierra was quick to add, "But quality first over the speed."
Naturally, as singer/songwriters, the pair want to have a hand in crafting the album beyond simply performing.
"As far as we're concerned, we're going to be co-writers on every single song that we put out. Even if it's very miniscule," says Alex. "We just want to make sure that our stamp of approval is on everything, because that's what we've done in the competition and it's been successful for us."
"Here's the deal. I've always been saying it -- for like six years," Alex says. "I've just never had an album to come out with. I've never had the resources or anything. People would be saying 'Hey dude you're playing gigs, are you going to have an album?' 'Dude, I'm going to get it out as quick as possible.' Now I can actually say that and it'll happen."
Sierra reflects, "Since I met him four and a half years ago, he's had an album coming out. So now it'll actually come through."
All I know is, I can't wait. Congrats to Alex and Sierra!
