Thoughts
This was undoubtedly the right choice. I honestly struggle to understand how they made it through to live shows in the first place. I've seen very few manufactured groups on this show display this little chemistry, yet make it this far. Maybe the Boy Band from The X Factor Australia, which failed out loud at Boot Camp yet still got through to Judges' Homes, where they proceeded to slaughter "I Kissed A Girl"? But even then, Natalie Bassingthwaighte had the good sense not to put them through to lives.
I almost feel like Gary put these girls through because he didn't want his entire category to be male acts, but even within his own category, there were better girl groups! Like Xyra! Or Brick City, which wasn't a girl group, but had one of the more talented female vocalists in the competition in its ranks. I think another reason the group was put through was because of their hesitance to let SeSe Foster go, as they haven't exactly made a secret about seeing stars whenever she walks into a room. But now that she's made it through to lives with this group, she can never come back.
Ah well, even if they'd survived this week, the writing was on the wall. No matter who was in the bottom 2 with them, Miss Dynamix was going home. The production just can't risk having a pregnant woman on the show from one week to the next, especially when she's this far along. Yet even if SeSe weren't pregnant, the vocals just haven't been there at all. Last night's performance was a disaster, and while this was slightly better, it just wasn't enough by any stretch of the imagination.
Of course, the real news out of all of this is Dermot's announcement that next week is DISCO WEEK. Between this, and last year's ABBA Week, I wonder if the show is just giving up on relevant themes. I love Disco something fierce (especially The Bee Gees), but I just don't know that any of these acts are necessarily going to find the right fit in here unless arrangements get shaken up across the board.
What do you think of these results? Who should have been in the bottom 2? And who should sing what for Disco Week? Lastly, what theme weeks would you like to see? Sound off in the comments!
