Before we get to the results, host Dermot O'Leary announces there will be no more DEADLOCK. He explains that in the event of a tie, the person who received the fewest votes in the previous night's "flash vote" will be eliminated. Of course, the catch here is that going into each results show, we already know who that person is. So "sending it to deadlock" is no longer a neutral move, as deciding to tie up the votes basically means you're casting the deciding vote against one of the acts.
I don't know about anyone else, but I think this is a hugely controversial change, as it robs the bottom 2 sing-off/voting of much of its drama. It also gives way too much power to the new "flash vote" concept. Of course, they almost had to do it this way if they were introducing the "flash vote," as voting lines end up closing for whoever gets the fewest flash votes, and so naturally that person is going to have the fewest votes overall if they sent it to deadlock, since that person's lines were only open for ten minutes. I really can't think of another way to do this that doesn't involve getting rid of the "flash vote" altogether. And, honestly, I'm not sure I'd mind getting rid of it.

Ultimately, I can't say I disagree with the results, necessarily. At least as it comes down to these two singers. But I do think Luke, Abi or Miss Dynamix should have been here. With that said, both singers should be insanely proud. I thought they had one of the best bottom 2 sing-offs this show has ever seen. Just great stuff, and you could tell how badly they both wanted to stay. Hopefully, Shelley brings that same fire next week. As for Lorna, while I thought she did a good job last night, I still can't help feeling her spot should have gone to Joseph Whelan. She seemed like a fairly obvious first-boot pick. Again, great singer, but I just couldn't have imagined her making it very far.
