RESULTS

The acts definitely returning for next week's semifinals are...

ANDREA FAUSTINI

FLEUR EAST

BEN HAENOW

The bottom 2 are...

LAUREN PLATT and STEREO KICKS.

A little surprised since I somewhat expected Fleur to be in a bit of trouble. I love her, but I thought she was the weakest of the five last night, upon reflection.

Also, sorry for the sparse nature of this post. I'm having to do this from my phone due to my Internet being down. Imagine my holiday luck.

But worry not. I'll be adding videos of the sing-off and results later. For the record, I'm rooting for Lauren.

BOTTOM 2 SING-OFF

Lauren sings "I Know Where I've Been" by Queen Latifah, and in my opinion, this is her best vocal of the entire season. There was nothing about this I didn't love. She deserved that standing ovation from Cheryl and Mel B, and if Louis didn't have a stake in the outcome, I think he would have stood up too. That was just superb.

Stereo Kicks sings "I Won't Give Up" by Jason Mraz, and this was one of the smarter song choices they've had so far. The sing-off song is usually chosen by the artist themselves, so I wonder how a thrown-together group picks what their Save Me song is going to be. This really fit them like a glove, and showed how well they can harmonize, to the point where I wish they'd done this a cappella. It could have been a real moment for them. Regardless, this was probably their best performance of the competition as well.

This was one hell of a sing-off, in my opinion.

FINAL RESULT

Ultimately, when it comes to the result...

Simon votes to send home STEREO KICKS.
Cheryl votes to send home STEREO KICKS.
Louis votes to send home LAUREN PLATT.
Mel B votes to send home LAUREN PLATT.

WE ARE GOING TO DEADLOCK!

Dermot reads the results...

STEREO KICKS HAS BEEN ELIMINATED FROM THE X FACTOR UK 2014!

LOUIS WALSH IS KNOCKED OUT OF THE COMPETITION!

I feared it'd be the end for Lauren when it went to deadlock. But I forgot that Lauren was competing against an act with no lack of familiarity with the Bottom 2, suggesting that while the boys are popular, they weren't as popular as Lauren, who managed to avoid the Bottom 2 altogether up until this point.

This is to take nothing away from Stereo Kicks, who went out on their best performance ("Run"), and arguably their strongest night overall. I suppose you could argue they deserved to move on, but on a personal level, I'm glad Lauren is sticking around. She's one of my faves.

But what do you think of the result? Did the right act go home? Was this even the right bottom 2? Sound off in the comments!
