Think that this season is going to be the last one for FOX's The X Factor? Don't think too soon. The show is in early negotiations for a fourth season featuring fewer episodes and a format change.
Sources tell Entertainment Weekly that FOX and X Factor producers have started discussion on a potential fourth season. This season The X Factor's ratings haven't been that good and they have hit some series lows.
However, a reason to keep the show is that the shows that replace The X Factor may fare worse than it does. FOX's series' Glee, Brooklyn Nine-Nine, Bob’s Burgers, Dads, The Mindy Project and MasterChef Jr all average lower than The X Factor.
FOX could try to fix the show's format and budget it like they have tried before - not to say it would work. But considering the show is a success in the 45 other countries that it airs, "the show’s overseas fame makes FOX’s edition feel like an ill-constructed toy that’s always a couple repairs away from working."
An option FOX is looking at is to shorten the show's which according to the EW report is the plan if it is renewed. It would possibly air only two hours a week. ABC's Dancing with the Stars seems to have benefit after removing its results show. Specifically and idea that has been spun around the rumor wheel is that this year's four-chair challenge will be incorporated as a part of the audition phase, reducing time and highlighting the best contestants from the jump
I like the X Factor and still want the US version to work. I'm hoping kinks will work out. Hope for the best!
