While I did feel like it was Joelle's time, it's a shame that she went out on the week of her best performance. More tellingly, she also delivered another solid vocal with her sing-off performance, a song which I never would have guessed she'd have picked for herself, yet which fit perfectly. It goes a long way in indicting RedFoo's abilities as a mentor, given the sabotage-worthy song picks he's been giving his girls. There's absolutely no reason Omar Dean shouldn't have been in the bottom 2, and even though JTR delivered one of their best performances of the season, I really don't see them lasting much longer. But the difference is that those two acts have mentors who seem a bit more self-aware about their contributions to the competition.
Granted, I'm not saying Foo doesn't take this seriously, but I think he misses just how adversely his decisions could end up affecting his acts. As a new judge/mentor, I think he might actually believe that the voting public won't hold his mistakes against his acts. Or worse, he doesn't see his decisions as mistakes at all. It's a troubling position to be in as a mentor, and I hope losing two acts in a row serves as a wake-up call to Foo (although, to be fair to Foo, Jiordan's sing-off song choice was nearly as bad as anything Foo could have given her. But the fact remains that Foo gets it wrong as often as he gets it right, when it comes to song selection).
At this point, the only obstacles preventing all three of Ronan's boys from making the finale are Dami Im and TH3RD DEGREE. It should be an interesting couple of weeks as we march toward the grand final.
