Women's Team Pursuit - London 2012 Olympics - Medal Results
Team USA tried to be the David to Team GB's Goliath in the Women's Team Pursuit at the London 2012 Olympics. See who came out on top and get all your medal results.
Team GB has been winning medals left and right in the indoor cycling events so far. The British Women's Pursuit team came into this race heavily favored, having won four out of the five World Championships in this relatively young sport and having set a new world record every time they've hit the track at the London games.
Team USA gave it their all, but the match ended up being a blow out with Team GB winning by over three seconds on their way to breaking their own world record again and winning the first gold medal to be awarded in Women's Team Pursuit.
For those unfamiliar, team pursuit involves teams of three riders (four for the men), who start on opposite ends of the track and then pursue each other. Each team rides in single file, so they can utilize the draft of their team mates and they take turns leading as they go around the track. So far I have not seen a team actually overtake another, though I'm sure it probably happens in earlier rounds, but Team GB came pretty close to actually catching Team USA in this race. A very impressive ride by the Brits.
Results:
Gold: Great Britain
Silver: USA
Bronze: Canada
Congratulations to all the medalists!
