Women's Modern Pentathlon - London 2012 Olympics - Results
The Women's Modern Pentathlon was the final event to be concluded at the London 2012 Olympics.
Here are your medal results:
The Modern Pentathlon involves the following five events: Fencing, Swimming, Riding, Shooting & Running.
The athletes start with an epee fencing match. They then compete in a 200 meter freestyle swim. Next is an equestrian show jumping event. The athletes accumulate points throughout all those events and those points determine their handicap in the final event, the "combined event."
The athletes are stagger started in the combined event according to their standing after the first three events. They run to a shooting range, hit five targets in 70 seconds, then run 1000 meters and repeat three times. The first athlete to cross the finish line wins.
Laura Asadauskaite of Lithuania entered the combined event in a first place tie with Yane Marques of Brazil. Both would start the event with a 0 second handicap. Asadauskaite would go on to win the gold medal, while Marques would slip to third behind Samantha Murry of Great Britain, who started the event with an eight second handicap.
M. Isaksen was the top American in the event. She finished fourth.
