Women's Keirin - London 2012 Olympics - Medal Results

The Women's Keirin was contested for the first time at an Olympic games at the London 2012 games today.  Medal results and race details to follow.

The Women's Keirin is a track cycling race that is essentially a sprint with a twist.  The riders start out behind a motorized pace cycle and the first several laps of the race a all about tactics.  With about three laps to go, the pace cycle leaves the track and it is an all out sprint to the finish.

Once the pace cycle left, the race was over pretty fast. There was lots of jockeying for position, but at timely move on the last lap assured victory for the British rider, making this a double gold night for Team GB on the cycling track.

Gold: Victoria Pendleton - Great Britain

Silver: Guo Shuang - China

Bronze: Lee Wai Sze - Hong Kong
