Women's 5000m - London 2012 Olympics - Results

The Women's 5000m race was run at the London 2012 Olympics today.  This 15 minute race would come down to an exciting and dramatic sprint in the home stretch.

Here are your medal results:

In what has been one of the more memorable finishes on the track for me at this Olympics, Tirunesh Dibaba of Ethiopia would come into the home stretch with the lead, but she appeared to run out of gas and her country woman Meseret Defar, as well as  Vivian Jepkemoi Cheruiyot of Kenya would run past her to claim gold and silver.  Dibaba would end up with bronze.

Defar appeared overcome with emotion at the finish line.  It was a very nice Olympic moment.

Results:

Gold: Meseret Defar - Ethiopia

Silver: Vivian Jepkemoi Cheruiyot - Kenya

Bronze:  Tirunesh Dibaba - Ethiopia

Congratulations to all the medal winners!
