It was recently confirmed that Michael Keaton and Tim Burton are back on board to make Beetlejuice 2 a reality. But it looks like the original film's star and director aren't the only ones returning. In an interview with The Daily Beast, Winona Ryder teased her involvement in the high-profile sequel.

"I'm kind of sworn to secrecy," said the Academy Award-nominated actress. "But it sounds like it might be happening."

Ryder, who played teen goth Lydia Deetz in the 1988 original, stated she became interested in joining the project once she heard that the sequel was being scripted by Seth Grahame-Smith, the author and screenwriter behind Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter and Burton's Dark Shadows.

"It's not a remake," Ryder revealed. "It's 27 years later. And I have to say, I love Lydia so much. She was such a huge part of me. I would be really interested in what she is doing 27 years later."

However, Ryder also acknowledged the public backlash against the possibility of a sequel, as the film's passionate fanbase has grown more than a bit hostile since the announcement of a follow-up.

"It's a very precious movie to people," Ryder explained. "So there are a lot people like, 'DON'T!'"

Ryder herself is one of those fans to whom the film remains dear, as she was just 17 when the movie was filmed.

"That's one of those movies where little kids stop me," she said. "I'm so associated with it. I think it gave me my career. I was such a weird looking kid."

But even with her well-established love for Beetlejuice, Lydia Deetz, and the world of Tim Burton, Ryder stated she wouldn't even consider participating in a sequel without Burton and Keaton. "I would never go near [a sequel] if it was not Tim and Michael," she said. "Because those guys, I love."

But it looks like she won't have to worry about having to do the movie without them...you know, provided she's actually involved and not just yanking our chain. Here's hoping.
