'Wilfred' Renewed For Final Season, Moved to FXX
Credit: FX
FX's Wilfred has been renewed for a fourth and final season, but with a catch.
TVGuide.com reports that the comedy, starring Elijah Wood as a man who sees his neighbor's dog (Jason Gann) as a man in a dog suit, will be moving to sister network FXX for its final season, which will consist of ten episodes. Of course, the catch here is that viewers who have FX might not have FXX, since the new network took over for Fox Soccer. So while Fox intended for FX to be included on a basic cable package, not all cable providers have acknowledged the change yet, instead continuing to group FXX in a specialty sports package. Hopefully, this is all straightened out by the time the final season premieres, as the series has taken a considerable hit in the ratings already.
The third season finale drew only 440,000 viewers, a drop down from its premiere, which drew 650,000 viewers. Both numbers pale in comparison to the series premiere in 2011, which brought in an estimated 2.55 million viewers.
With that in mind, it's unsurprising to find that the show is looking to get back to the chemistry of earlier seasons: the final season will mark the return of executive producer David Zuckerman to the role of co-showrunner, who stepped down from the role -- which he shared with partners Eli Jorne and Reed Agnew -- after last season.
The final season of Wilfred will premiere in 2014.
