Where's The Magic Rainbows?

(Here’s the performance show recap from Howard!)

American Idol Season 8, Top 3 Performances

The buildup has been rather quiet, much like the two men vying for the title. In a video of a press conference with them both, you could see the mutual respect and appreciation for one another, something that is fantastic to see. I hope the press shows as much respect for those men once this is over with.

Clips from the men at the auditions, giving lines that work well. Crusty shows a flair for the dramatique, 'This is the final performance show, and this is American Idol...' Then he comes up with 'this is the acoustic rocker versus the glam rocker, Conway versus California, the boy-next-door versus the guy-liner!' Wow, no boxing metaphors this year, just a light version of good versus evil...

Kris won the coin toss, and chose to go second. Three phone lines, and one text line, and already planning to go long tomorrow night. And on to commercial. And GLEE - magically delicious! Can't wait to see that! We are back, with Adam.

Adam Lambert (866) 436-5701/03/05 - Mad World - Contestant Reprise
Smoke and blue lights tell us it is time for Mad World Instead of staying seating, he is stalking the stage in a black longcoat and boots. Huge kudos from the judges - but Simon calls it over-theatrical [Didn't he make fun of Randy for saying that?]. For me, once again, it was a brilliant vocal.

Kris Allen (866) 436-5702/04/06 - Ain't No Sunshine - Contestant Reprise
Kris is rocking the t-shirt and vest, and takes to the grand piano to perform. Virtually the same performance, only hits the final falsetto better tonight. The judges are fawning in a way they never did during the season. Simon called round 1 for Kris.

Two songs down, and four to go. And a Top 10 sighting, with Gokey on the end. On the return, Crusty rewrites the script, and calls it too close to call.

Adam Lambert (866) 436-5701/03/05 - A Change Is Gonna Come - Producer's Pick
Adam suits up to sing this spiritual. And he delivers a flawless vocal filled with nuance, emotion, and passion. The judges are loosing their stuff. Paula was standing and shouting. This show is hot tonight!

Kris Allen (866) 436-5702/04/06 - What's Going On - Producer's Pick
Kris goes acoustic, with the henley and the band on stage. It was good, but not great. A bit too jiggly for me. Paula and Kara loved it, Simon and Randy thought it was a bit light, especially for the evening. Simon calls round 2 'a million percent for Adam.' Not shocking.

Crusty hanging with the Top 10 in the audience. He brings out Adam.

Adam Lambert (866) 436-5701/03/05 - No Boundaries - Kara Coronation Song
Adam is out there with a beaded jacket and metallic jeans. He is working the song. HAte to say it, but a much better song than usual. Randy didn't love it. Kara is proud of what he brought to the song. Paula adores him. Simon believes he could be a world-wide star. Both he and Crusty call him a class act.

GLEE commercial again - the Preview Event to follow Idol. I can't wait to see it.

Kris Allen (866) 436-5702/04/06 - No Boundaries - Kara Coronation Song
Not a great song for Kris. Wow, did he blow the lyrics, or a note at the beginning? That song was a stretch for him. Pushed his range quite a bit. Wow, I think they are calling it for Kris, don't judge on that song, in the wrong key...

Recap - A little anticlimactic, if I was being honest - maybe the coronation song sapped more than I thought it did. I was expecting more out of both of them. I think Adam won the night for me, but had the strange feeling I was being told Kris was going to win it all. And then Carrie comes out to sing 'Home Sweet Home' live to close the show. She does it well, to a montage of the season. Time to vote, people! Or watch GLEE!
