'Wet Hot American Summer' Series Possibly Headed to Netflix
Could the 2001 cult classic Wet Hot American Summer find a home on Netflix as a series? It's not yet confirmed, but man, are we hoping it's true.
Netflix is reportedly considering adapting Wet Hot American Summer for a 10-episode prequel series centering on the fictional Camp Firewood. The streaming service is looking to reunite the original cast for the series, which seems like a massive undertaking given that the original comedy featured an insane cast of popular stars and up-and-comers including Paul Rudd, Bradley Cooper, Amy Poehler, Elizabeth Banks, Ken Marino, Molly Shannon, Christopher Meloni, Janeane Garofalo, David Hyde Pierce, Michael Ian Black, Joe Lo Truglio and Michael Showalter. However, executive producers David Wain and Showalter have said they would plan to have each of the actors film their scenes over the course of a handful of days, since not every episode will feature every character.
While the project hasn't officially been picked up, Universal Pictures, the distributor of the original film, is considering getting in on the action, since the film was a notable success for them, becoming much bigger on the home video market than it was in theaters. In the intervening 13 years, there had been discussions of a sequel, but it never came to pass. This Netflix project could be the closest we come to returning to Camp Firewood.
So yeah, my fingers are definitely crossed for this one. Wet Hot American Summer is amazing.
