Weird Al Yankovic Parodies 'Happy' With 'Tacky' (VIDEO)
It's kind of amazing that Weird Al Yankovic has made a nearly thirty-year career out of making parodies of hit songs, given that the shelf life of a novelty song normally isn't all that long (hey there, "Barbie Girl"!). But it certainly helps that Weird Al has an inexhaustible, constantly replenishing reservoir of popular songs just begging to be parodied. That alone has likely kept him afloat all these years -- well, that and his talent for actually making these parodies funny. Case in point, Weird Al's music video for his new single, "Tacky".
The song is parody of Pharrell's ubiquitous, Oscar-nominated tune "Happy" from last summer's Despicable Me 2 (seriously, "Happy" is already a year old! How time flies!), and it features a host of celebrity cameos from Jack Black, Margaret Cho, Aisha Tyler, Kristen Schaal and Eric Stonestreet. It's a pretty fantastic video, and is just the first music video for his #8videos8days project, which will feature the release of one new music video a day for the next eight days in promotion of his new album, Mandatory Fun (releasing tomorrow, July 15th). The album features parodies Lorde's "Royals," Imagine Dragons' "Radioactive," Robin Thicke's "Blurred Lines," Iggy Azalea's "Fancy" and more. Sounds like a blast. But until the release, you can check out the music video for "Tacky" below:
