Weekend Box Office: 'The Fault In Our Stars' rockets to $48 million opening
The Fault in Our Stars opened with $48 million over the weekend leading Maleficent and Edge of Tomorrow.
The Fault In Our Stars which stars Shailene Woodley was earlier estimated to earn $55 million after a blistering opening, but sales cooled during Saturday's numbers. Teen movies tend to be opening day heavy (think Twilight franchise) and The Fault in Our Stars seemed to follow the trend.
Meanwhile Edge of Tomorrow starring Tom Cruise which was estimated to finish second, lands third behind Maleficent with $29 million. Last year, Cruise's Oblivion opened at $37 million.
