Weeds - Season 8 Episode 3 - Recap and Review - See Blue and Smell Cheese and Die

I truly feel like Weeds is back on course in its final season. It's third episode, "See Blue and Smell Cheese and Die," brought back the vibe of the early years and the early Nancy Botwin (Mary Louise Parker).

The episode opened with Nancy getting oriented back in her new family home. Silas (Hunter Parrish), Jill (Jennifer Jason Leigh), and Andy (Justin Kirke) were all on hand to welcome her back to reality. Shane (Alexander Gould) was noticeably absent. Jill bought Nancy socks with tracking to help her get around. She accidentally bought the socks for dogs. Oh, well. Target has a thirty day return policy. Andy offered to cook Nancy breakfast, but she can only taste black licorice. Even coffee tastes bad to her. Nancy Botwin lost her taste for coffee? Blasphemy!

Was Shane training at the police academy? No, a get-well-soon card left for Nancy alerted us that Shane had cracked the mystery. He figured out that Tim Scottson (Daryl Sabara) attempted to kill Nancy. Nancy and Silas brainstormed how to handle the situation, and Silas decided to inform Nancy of Shane's studies at the police academy. They embarked on a road trip to intercept Shane before he could kill Tim.

Andy spent the episode attempting to bond with Jill's young twin girls, Shayla and Taylor. Andy filled in as their roller derby coach, but they weren't feeling the team spirit. Jill's ex-husband Scott ferociously cheered them on. Andy thought they just played for fun, but apparently not!

Twin: "There are no games where we come from!"

Andy: "You come from Oakland."

Twin: "We come from just south of Oakland!"

Opponent: "Ouch! My hair tie!"

Shayla: "Next time I take your tampon!"

These little girls are aggressive! They did not handle their loss well. In fact, they took it out on Andy. They weren't having his "feel better" donuts. Jill was proud of Andy, though. Later, Andy tried to make nice by gifting the twins Kansas City Bomber, which was "signed" to them by Raquel Welch. The twins roasted Andy's shoes in the oven. He only has eight toes! Buying shoes is a big ordeal! Now, he has to take them to Claire's for earrings. Hell!

Later, Andy got back at the brats. He cut off the infamous red dread while Shayla was sleeping!

A girl fight erupted between Andy and Scott. Oddly, it ended with Scott venting to Andy!

Scott:  "You think we wanted twins? We wanted one kid! Uno!.. Screw this! Let’s abort and get a boat!"

Scott apologized but ended up leaving. He left Andy in control.

Just to get this out of the way, Doug (Kevin Nealon) was on the episode, but his part was brief. He's leaving his job in favor of a new "charity business." Doug has a scheme, and it probably will have to do with weed.

Both Silas and Nancy had their money on Guillermo as the shooter. While driving, Silas spots an A&W restaurant and wants to stop for fountain root beer.

Nancy: "Silas, your brother is about to kill someone... else!"

Silas argues that Shane isn't stupid enough to murder another person in cold blood. He probably just plans on torturing the kid. Silas thinks he deserves a few minutes with Shane. Nancy made a judgment call.

After arriving at Tim's house, they run into Tula, Tim's girlfriend. Tula is beyond eccentric.

Nancy: "What's that smell? Are you baking a pie?"

Tula: "I don't think so!"

Nancy sees the aftermath of Tim losing his father, and her ex-husband, to the drug business. Tim has twelve dead pet rabbits in shoeboxes on the windowsill. They're all named Peter. He's also into some sort of weird porn where people have sex in shark cages underwater. Tula alerts them that another one of Tim's old friends stopped by earlier. She loaned him Tim's gun so they could go hunting together. He had dead eyes. It's Shane! Silas thinks that sounds weird.

Tula: "Tim's gun. Tim's... gun. Project Runway!"

She was a fun character for what she was worth! Silas tells her that Tim shot Nancy in the head, and Tula punches through the wall. She leaves him. Nancy and Silas made their way to Tim's job at a sandwich shop. When Tim sees Nancy in line, the color drains from his face. His boss insists that he follow protocol and make her sandwich up to par. Nancy plays along, but cuts in when the boss gets obnoxious about Tim's shaky sandwich making skills.

Nancy: "Will you shut up? He's trying."

As it turns out, Nancy wasn't ever looking to get back at Tim. She wanted to help him. She ordered him into the back of her car, threatening to call his mother. As they sat in the parking lot waiting for Shane, Nancy reasoned with Tim. Why move away from Agrestic, California? She wants him to get his life back together. Tim wants an apology from her!

Nancy: "I can’t be responsible for another messed up kid. Bury the rabbits, pack up your car, stop f*cking the Amish, become a nutritionist. These are my terms."

They went back to Tim's place to pack up his things. Tula is already gone. Tim started saying goodbye to his rabbits, but Silas lost his patience. He just knocked them all out the window! Then, they heard banging at the door. Nancy told Tim to hide in the bathroom, just before Shane busted through the door with a police force! Shane cuffed Tim, and read him his rights. Nancy mouthed an earnest "sorry," and Tim mouthed a relieved "thanks."

What did you think of the episode? What do you think of the final season so far? Do you like good Shane or Evil Shane?
