'The Walking Dead' Renewed for Sixth Season

Ahead of its fifth season premiere this Sunday, AMC has announced that The Walking Dead has been officially renewed for a sixth season.

"We could not be more excited for October 12th as we share new episodes of ‘The Walking Dead’ with fans around the globe," said AMC President Charlie Collier. "In advance of Sunday’s season five premiere, AMC proudly confirms a sixth season order of this extraordinary series. Thank you to Robert Kirkman, Scott Gimple, the terrific executive producers, and the entire team who brings this compelling world and these rich characters to life. There’s plenty more Dead ahead thanks to their impressive, collective effort."

The announcement should come as a surprise to pretty much no one, since The Walking Dead is AMC's most successful show by a wide margin. Hell, its success goes a lot farther than just AMC: it's the #1 show on television among adults 18-49, and the highest-rated show in cable television history. That's huge for a show about people fighting dead things -- and each other.

The season five premiere airs this Sunday, Oct. 12, at 9:00 PM ET/PT, followed by the live season premiere of Talking Dead at 10:00 PM ET/PT with host Chris Hardwick and this week’s guests Scott M. Gimple, Greg Nicotero and Conan O’Brien. And we couldn't be more excited!

Check back Sunday night for the recap/review, as we'll be offering full coverage of the big Season 5 premiere of The Walking Dead!
