After creative differences on The Walking Dead forced Glen Mazzara, the man credited with the creative renaissance of the series, to bail as showrunner for the popular zombie drama, the series has been strangely hard-pressed to find anyone to take over.
Enter Scott Gimple, Mazzara's second-in-command. Gimple first joined the drama in season two, writing the third and seventh episodes, and co-writing the 10th with Mazzara. He would go on to write the sixth episode of season three, as well as the upcoming penultimate episode to the second half of the third season.
Mazzara named Gimple his No. 2 after being promoted to showrunner upon the unceremonious dismissal of Frank Darabont at the start of the second season.
Gimple is now the third showrunner in as many seasons, and while Mazzara will stay on through the conclusion of season three, Gimple will be taking over full-time when the show goes into production on season four later this year.
