The Voice 7 Results: Who went home on Top 8 Week? - 12/02/2014
Welcome to the live blog and recap for The Voice 7 Results, "Live Eliminations"! The Top 8 Performance Show was pretty damn terrific. Not only did Matt McAndrew have, arguably, the performance of the season (earning him the highest iTunes charting of the season so far!), but Chris Jamison also crushed it with his take on a Marvin Gaye classic. In addition, the Top 8 got down with Nick Jonas in a performance that was downright BOSS.
But with THREE artists going home this week, half of the remaining finalists will be at risk for elimination. Who will be tonight's Bottom 4?
Rickey.org readers predict that tonight's Bottom 4 artists will be Team Gwen's Ryan Sill (31.5% of the vote), Team Pharrell's remaining two singers Luke Wade (26.98% of the vote) and DaNica Shirey (20.63% of the vote), and Team Adam's Chris Jamison (6.75% of the vote). But it's not too late to vote in the poll, so head on over and add your predictions!

Let's get this show on the road!

RECAP
-We open with the return of Christina Grimmie, performing her new single, "With Love". And it's kind of incredible, honestly. She performed the absolute hell out of it, and I couldn't have been happier with how this turned out. She announces after the performance that she'll be going on tour in Europe pretty soon, and although we don't get a well-wishing interview with Adam afterwards, he seems genuinely stoked to see her, giving her a high-five on the way out.

RESULTS, PT. 1
-Carson has the results and reveals the first saved artist.
The first artist through to next week is on Team Adam...MATT MACANDREW!
So for the second week in a row, if I'm not mistaken, Matt has been declared safe. And that's kind of what I love about this show. It doesn't try and pretend that a favorite is seriously in danger. No one would buy Matt being anything other than at or near the top of the votes after the week he's had.
-We return from break with Carson talking to the coaches. Adam seems confident about tonight, while Gwen is proud of her team, noting that Taylor John is such a rebel, he's teaching her at this point. Pharrell is congratulated on getting a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, and goes on to note how much he loves working with Luke and DaNica. Blake, meanwhile, says he was hard on Craig this week because he doesn't want this for himself, he wants it for Craig.

-And now we find out who else is safe...
The second artist through to next week is on Team Adam...DAMIEN!
Yeah, it's looking like the Bottom 4 predictions may turn out to be right. Still, I don't expect Adam to actually lose anyone tonight, unless Ryan Sill's super active fanbase goes into overdrive to save him again. But that'd just be madness.
-We return from break with a behind-the-scenes video of just how busy all the contestants are. We see the rehearsals, how the stage is put together, the performances getting laid out, and the contestants going through wardrobe (Taylor John Williams describes his style as "Amish Hipster"). We then get a cool look at the artists recording their iTunes singles, with Luke and the other guys jamming in the lobby (with Luke amusingly doing The Voice theme song on his guitar). I wish we could see more of these fun little moments between the contestants, since everyone usually seems so serious on this show all the time.
RAELYNN PERFORMS!
-Raelynn performs her new song, "God Made Girls," and it's a perfectly cute little number. I mean, I don't exactly love it or anything, but this could have been far worse than what it was. She apparently wrote this song, and it's getting airplay on country radio, so good on her. After the performance, she talks about hanging out with Blake, and how wild life has been since the show ended. Blake then notes that not many female artists are breaking through in country music right now, but RaeLynn just kicked in the door. In a cute moment the camera barely catches, Blake and RaeLynn hug as she makes her way off the stage.

RESULTS, PT. 3
-Time for more results!
The third artist through to the Top 5 is from Team Gwen...TAYLOR JOHN WILLIAMS!
The fourth and final artist guaranteed a place in the Top 5 is from Team Blake...CRAIG WAYNE BOYD!
The bottom four: DaNica Shirey, Luke Wade, Ryan Sill and Chris Jamison!
So Pharrell could become the first coach knocked out of the competition tonight. And Adam could lose his first artist if Chris's fans don't pull through.
Blake is surprised by the result, but also not that surprised, since somebody has to go. But he reiterates that this is the best group of artists he's ever seen on any show. And with that, we get to the sing-off...
BOTTOM 4 SING-OFF
-DaNica Shirey kicks things off with "I'd Rather Go Blind," which is one of those big singer songs, a tune that feels like it was practically designed to be belted out by someone whose ass is on the line in a singing competition. It's a great song, although it's a song that seems to just keep going on and on. Pharrell gives her a standing ovation and, after the performance, says that everyone in "NBC TV Land" heard that and felt that. He tells the viewers to go with what they just felt and to vote to keep her in, since she deserves to be here. Um, dude...what about Luke?
-Luke Wade is up next with "Stand By Me," announcing "This is for my friends." That seems to suggest he knows his time is up. And his performance seems to back it up. It starts off well enough, but he ends up either forgetting the lyrics or losing his place in the song, and he never really recovers from it. The rest of the performance feels kind of phoned-in, and even Pharrell can't really sugarcoat it, although he tries to speak diplomatically. But when the best Pharrell can say is "America saw you," you're probably not long for the competition.
-Ryan Sill sings "Heaven," once again illustrating his insane skill at picking good songs for sing-offs. It's a really solid vocal, although I wouldn't put it ahead of DaNica right now. But I could easily see his fanbase being motivated to vote like crazy after this. Hell, he could have sang "Happy Birthday," and his fanbase would bend over backwards to save him. That kind of feverish dedication is rare for a frequent Bottom 3 contestant on The Voice. Gwen says America keeps saving him because he's so good at singing, although I'd argue being cute has at least something to do with it.
-Chris Jamison brings it to a close with "Georgia On My Mind," and I swear he looks more and more like a lost Tatum brother every week. As a vocal, this is the best of the four sing-off performances. I would have liked if he didn't keep his eyes closed for a huge part of it, but I really can't front on the vocal. That falsetto note towards the end was downright CRAZY, and earns Adam's standing O before the song is even over. The crowd is rabid for him, so if that's any indication, I think we know who's sticking around. Adam talks about how hard Chris has worked for everything he's achieved, and how he's always willing to learn more. He says losing is a part of winning, and notes that although Chris Jamison was not in the Top 4 tonight, he's definitely in the Top 5. "I love you, and honestly, there's no kid that deserves it more," Adam stresses. Carson asks if he's officially predicting Chris will be saved, and Adam responds by pleading with America to save him.
-During the break, we see the results in real time, and Chris remains in the lead with 51%, followed by DaNica with 25%, Luke with 13% and, surprisingly, Ryan in dead last with 11%. I guess the luck of even the luckiest runs out eventually.
-Back from break as we kill some time by asking Blake for his thoughts on the results, since he's the only one without an artist at risk. He says it'd be nice to keep a girl in the competition, but he isn't sure how this will play out.
FINAL RESULT
-Carson doesn't waste time...
America has instantly saved...CHRIS JAMISON!
And with that, we wrap the show with hardly a goodbye to the eliminated artists.
RYAN SILL, LUKE WADE and DANICA SHIREY are eliminated from The Voice 7!
TEAM PHARRELL has been knocked out of the competition!
Not surprised by this result, although I'll miss Luke and DaNica. Hell, I even thought Ryan took more criticism than he deserved. But I think the Top 5 we have now are the right Top 5, even if the people who should have gone through to the Top 12 in the live playoffs had gone through.
But what do you think of this result? Did the right artists go home? Was this the right bottom 4? Sound off in the comments! Until next week, thanks for reading!
