The Voice 7 Results: Who went home on Top 12 Week? - 11/18/2014

Welcome to the live blog and recap for The Voice 7 Results, "Live Eliminations"! Last night's show was a night of some surprises, whether it was Chris Jamison stepping up and delivering his best vocal, or Luke Wade having an unfortunate flub that could cost him tonight. It's a packed show tonight, as two artists go home. On the bright side, Ella Henderson performs live!

But who will be at risk for elimination tonight?

Rickey.org readers predict that tonight's Bottom 3 artists will be Team Pharrell's Sugar Joans (25% of the vote), Team Gwen's Ryan Sill (24% of the vote), and Team Blake's Jessie Pitts (15% of the vote). But it's not too late to vote in the poll, so head on over and add your predictions!

The Voice Instant Save is back, so here's how to save your favorite if they should end up in the Bottom 3...

I'll be adding videos as the night rolls on. Until then, add your thoughts in the comments below, and keep refreshing for analysis, thoughts, and results.

Let's get this show on the road!

RECAP

-Before we kick off the show, let's go over the iTunes voting results real quick: As for right now, the three artists in the driver's seat for this competition, according to iTunes voting, appear to be Matt McAndrew (#6), Craig Wayne Boyd (#11) and Damien (#16). The next closest person on the rankings is Chris Jamison at #32, although Taylor John Williams isn't too far behind him, ranking at #35. It was a bit of a strange week since, other than the Matt McAndrew surge, I'm not sure anyone landed where they were expected to. I really like Damien, and I generally enjoy Craig Wayne Boyd, but was anyone expecting them to be ranked as high as they were, or for Reagan James to be as low as she was (#131, ranked even lower than the new single from Team Blake alum RaeLynn, whose "God Made Girls" is at #103)?

Of course, just because you're ranked low on the iTunes Top 200 singles chart doesn't mean you're going home, necessarily. Especially since you might rank fairly high on the singles charts for your respective genre (Craig Wayne Boyd is #1 on the Country Singles chart right now, for example). But it's not always a good sign if you're ranked that low. Or, in the case of poor Sugar Joans, not ranked at all. Yes, out of 200 songs on the iTunes Top 200 singles chart, not one of them is by Sugar Joans. So barring any reprieve by The Voice Instant Save, it's looking like Sugar is in real trouble tonight.

That said, I've been generally terrible at predicting this show all season, so I figure these rankings are a cosmic sign that I really ought to stop trying. Blech.

TEAM GWEN PERFORMS

-So we kick things off with Team Gwen singing "The Tide Is High" by Blondie, and it's a cute performance, if somewhat forgettable. The most memorable thing about it is the fake palm trees onstage, and Gwen's glam-rock Helena Bonham Carter look. Okay, that's probably overselling the look a bit, but her hair does look a bit Marla Singer-esque, and those heels add like an extra foot to her height. A slammin' look, in all honesty. But Gwen being fashionable should surprise no one.

-Carson then announces a MASSIVE FREAKING TWIST: when we're down to the final three artists in the competition, everyone eliminated from the Top 12 will be brought back, America will vote, and the person America chooses will become the fourth wildcard finalist! Isn't this...I dunno, kind of unfair? Someone eliminated from Week 1 could bypass the rest of the competition and just head straight to the finale? I mean, with that kind of back story, I imagine they'd also get a bit of a voting bump too once they get into the Final Four. Seriously, I can't imagine the wildcard will be eliminated immediately after being voted back in. I'm not sure I like this twist.

RESULTS, PT. 1

-It's time to find out who's coming back next week.

The first artist saved is from Team Adam....MATT MCANDREW!

The second artist saved is from Team Gwen...ANITA ANTOINETTE!

And that's it for now. No surprises there though.

-Back from break, Carson asks Adam what he thinks his team's chances to make it through unscathed. He says you can never be sure, especially when everyone has done such a uniformly excellent job in their performances. Gwen, who's now wearing an outfit that looks straight out of Queen of the Damned, can barely speak (whether from excitement or straining). Pharrell announces he'll be bringing in Diana Ross next week, and Carson adds that there will be other superstar mentors such as Patrick Stump from Fall Out Boy and Meghan Trainor.

RESULTS, PT. 2

-Time for more results!

The third artist saved is from Team Pharrell...DANICA SHIREY!

The fourth artist saved is from Team Blake...CRAIG WAYNE BOYD!

Once again, no surprises just yet.

ELLA HENDERSON PERFORMS

-Ella is here to sing "Ghost", my musical OBSESSION at the moment. I still can't believe she went home as early as she did on The X Factor, but her success illustrates that if you're going to be successful, it's going to happen whether you win some show or not. As usual, Ella sounds sensational here, and looks amazing. Crushing on Ella so hard, ya'll don't even know.

RESULTS, PT. 3

-Two more names...

The fifth artist saved is from Team Adam...DAMIEN!

The sixth artist saved is from Team Blake...REAGAN JAMES!

Carson makes note, once again, that Reagan is the youngest artist in the competition. Because we can't just let a good singer be a good singer if she's under 18.

-We then get a random commercial in which Adam tries to sing while being zoomed around in a Nissan GT-R. Because why not?

TEAM BLAKE PERFORMS

-The team sings Elton John's "Sad Songs (Say So Much)," and I didn't think I could make it this far into life discovering Elton John tracks I've never heard before, but this is one such song. Granted, I don't exactly love it or anything, but I do like getting something relatively fresh to my ears. I don't think any of them up there need to be singing a song like this though. Not even Craig. It just doesn't feel right for any of them.

RESULTS, PT. 4

-Carson will read off THREE names this time...

The seventh artist saved is from Team Gwen...TAYLOR JOHN WILLIAMS!

The eighth artist saved is from Team Adam...CHRIS JAMISON!

The ninth and final artist saved by America is from Team Pharrell...LUKE WADE!

The bottom three tonight are: Jessie Pitts, Sugar Joans and Ryan Sill.

Aaaand Rickey.org readers nail it again.

LAST CHANCE SING-OFF

-For her last chance song, Jessie is singing "Gravity" by Sara Bareilles, one of my favorite songs on Earth. Of course, the problem with this performance is the same problem that happens any time someone sings that song on a talent show, which is that the song is absolutely cut to shreds. They edited out all the good parts of the song to fit it into 90 seconds, to such a degree that she probably would have been better off doing something else, since this never had the chance to build. I love Jessie's tone though, for what that's worth. After the performance, Blake argues that Jessie is one of the nicest and most talented artists he's ever worked with, and adds that she deserves to be here, as Jessie begins to tear up.

-Sugar Joans sings "I Wanna Dance With Somebody" by Whitney Houston, and while it's not perfect, I actually think this is one of her better performances, ignoring how bad an idea it is to sing Whitney Houston in the first place. It's fun and light, and she works the stage without compromising her vocals. But it's still the problem Sugar has always had: She could do current songs in a classic style, but instead she ends up doing these older songs in that older style, which does nothing to help her sound relevant. I love Sugar, but I feel like this is the end of the road for her. After the performance, Pharrell says he plans on working out whatever deficiencies America sees in her by working more closely with her in the studio. He wants America to keep her around, but I'd be surprised if they did. Pleasantly surprised, since I like Sugar. But surprised, nonetheless.

-Ryan Sill sings "More Than Words" by Extreme, and I'd have called you a liar if you told me yesterday that I'd want to see him saved out of a bottom three that included Jessie and Sugar. But I thought Ryan's performance was the best of the three. This was a crystal clear, pure vocal, and while the final falsetto note didn't exactly work for me, I thought Ryan did enough to best his two competitors. After the performance, Gwen pleads with America to save him.

-Carson announces that the Instant Save window is now open, and you can vote by tweeting #VoiceSaveJessie, #VoiceSaveSugar, or #VoiceSaveRyan. Retweeting a tweet with any of those hashtags also counts as a vote. However, you must make sure your hashtag has no spaces in it, or else it will not count.

-During the break, we get the return of the suspense-killing real-time vote totals. Ryan is in the lead with 45% against Jessie Pitts at 32% and Sugar Joans at 23%. I have no idea why they continue to show the totals, since it eliminates any element of surprise that these results might have had. The numbers are currently frozen, as if everyone in the world suddenly decided to stop voting at the same time. Seconds before we return, Jessie ticks up slightly to 33% while Ryan falls to 44%, but it's not like anyone is catching up with Ryan in the next 20 seconds.

FINAL RESULT

-Back from break with Gwen making the case for Ryan by saying he has a lot to learn, which is weirder than Pharrell saving Elyjuh because he's not ready yet. Pharrell pleads with America to save Sugar, and notes how proud he is to have worked with her. Blake hopes America saves Jessie. He says Jessie lights up the room when she walks into it, and adds that he doesn't care if this ends tonight or if Jessie continues on and wins the show, they're going to be friends for a long time.

-Carson reads the final result...

America has instantly saved...RYAN SILL!

SUGAR JOANS and JESSIE PITTS are eliminated from THE VOICE 7!

I'll miss both Sugar and Jessie immensely, but based on the sing-off, I actually think this was the right result. Ryan probably won't last much longer (hell, I'll be surprised if he isn't axed next week), but he deserved to stay tonight, in my opinion.

But what do you think? Did America make the right call? Sound off in the comments! Until next week, thanks for hanging out, everyone! It's been a blast.

GOODNIGHT!
