The Voice 2014 Results - Top 8 Triple Elimination - 05/06/2014

Welcome to The Voice 2014 Season 6 results, recap and live blog for May 06, 2014. Who went home and was eliminated from the Top 8? It's a TRIPLE ELIMINATION tonight! Only five will make it through to next week!

We're not sure just yet if there will be a sing-off for the Instant Save on Twitter. But just in case there is, here's how you can save your favorite: vote using the hasthag #VoiceSave followed by the name of the artist you want to save. You will have five minutes near the end of the show to vote!

Josh Kaufman and Christina Grimmie had an incredible showing on iTunes last night, so they should probably be safe. But everyone else is fair game! Last night's performance show was a bit of a mixed bag, and given the divisive nature of the Top 8 power rankings, it appears opinions really do differ wildly across the board.

Rickey.org readers predict Delvin Choice, Jake Worthington, and Audra McLaughlin will be going home tonight! Will Blake really lose two of his acts?! It's going to be a real nail-biter tonight!

Let's get this show on the road!

RECAP

-Carson starts us off by noting that while it's a Triple Elimination, the Instant Save is still in play. He'll be revealing the bottom FOUR artists, and America will get the chance to save one via Twitter. So, essentially, half the contestants will be safe, while the other half will be at risk of elimination. Crazy.

-We kick things off with Audra, Jake, Kat, and Kristin singing "Chainsaw" by The Band Perry, and it's pretty decent. I think the band is swallowing them up, in some parts, but it's mostly an energetic, catchy little group performance. No complaints from me.

RESULTS, PT. 1

-The contestants join Carson at center stage, and he reveals that every single artist reached the Top 100 on iTunes voting, with two even making the Top 10 (he doesn't name names, but as noted above, it was Josh and Christina).

-Carson reveals the very first artist moving on to the top 5...

JOSH KAUFMAN advances to the Top 5!

-This was to be expected. Josh charting at #2 on iTunes pretty much made him invulnerable tonight. His Top 5 placement is very well-deserved.

-Back from break with Carson asking Adam if he's sticking with his prediction about Kat advancing to the finals now that he knows three artists will be going home tonight. He says he honestly doesn't know, but states that they did their job, and that she certainly deserves to advance.

-Carson then asks Shakira what it would mean for Kristen to advance, and she says that Kristen has grown a lot and has been very successful on iTunes (has she?). Shakira says she has faith that America will put Kristen through. Meanwhile, Usher is thrilled that Josh is through to the Top 5, and that he charted at #2 on iTunes. He thanks Adam, saying that he's the biggest reason Josh is on his team. I still can't believe Adam let Josh go. I bet he's still having trouble believing it too.

-Blake comments that he now knows, mathematically, that someone from his team or "Zack Morris's team" (I'll never tire of Blake's burns on Adam's new hair) will be going home. This leads to Adam and Blake bickering again, as Adam questions why Blake is so obsessed with him. Oh come now, Adam, that's how bromances work!

RESULTS, PT. 2

-The remaining seven artists are back out onstage, and Carson reveals the result...

KRISTEN MERLIN advances to the Top 5!

-Shakira isn't exactly sure she heard correctly, and shouts at Carson to confirm if she actually heard him right. It's kind of an adorable moment, particularly once Shakira realizes she heard right, and she and Kristen embrace in celebration. So glad Kristen made it through. She's really grown on me a lot over the past few weeks.

-Back from break with David Walton and Benjamin Stockham from NBC's About a Boy. Benjamin hugs his mother and talks about how he and David hang out like this all the time, while David says, unconvincingly, that he always watches The Voice since "It's our lead-in!"

VOICE CONFESSIONAL

-Since Mother's Day is this Sunday, this is mother-themed, with Blake talking about his mother entering him in pageants, Usher saying he wouldn't be the man he is today without her, and touching comments from Carson, Shakira, and Adam. Carson's mother even cries upon hearing her son talk about her, and it's actually really beautiful. So are the comments from Audra and Sisaundra, who talk about how their mothers give them strength. They both get choked up in the process, and suddenly, I feel like someone must be chopping onions in here. Excuse me...(*sniffles*)

RESULTS, PT. 3

-Back to business. Carson reveals the next result...

CHRISTINA GRIMMIE advances to the Top 5!

-Christina fights back tears, even though her safety was so certain, I typed out the result before The Voice confessional was even finished. I think Christina has gone from frontrunner to question mark and back again, to where I think it'll be tough for anyone to stop her from winning.

-Back from break with more Sprint "Framily" shilling, before we head to our next performance...

-Josh, Sisaundra, Christina, and Delvin sing a weird R&B/techno fusion song called "Latch". It's such a strange song, but kind of catchy. And all four singers sound fantastic here. This makes me wish, even more than I did before, that Sisaundra would sing something current (or at least current-SOUNDING) for once. But if she lands in the bottom four tonight, she might not get that chance unless America is feeling forgiving. Still, I sincerely enjoyed this performance, even though this isn't normally the type of song I'd go crazy over.

RESULTS, PT. 3

-Carson reveals the final artist saved by America's vote...

JAKE WORTHINGTON advances to the Top 5!

-This means the bottom four are Sisaundra Lewis, Audra McLaughlin, Kat Perkins, and Delvin Choice! This sing-off is going to be INSANE! That said, I don't really think the sing-off songs themselves will matter when America hits up Twitter to vote on whom to save. By this point, voters have already made up their minds, and it's up to the fanbases to vote like crazy to keep their favorite in. But if there are casual voters who are on the fence, they could mean the difference between safety and elimination, so this should be interesting. That is, if the live stats during commercial break don't completely kill the drama.

-Back from break, and it's time to get singin'!

SISAUNDRA LEWIS SINGS FOR THE INSTANT SAVE!

-Sisaundra sings "(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman" by Aretha Franklin. It's a positively terrific vocal, but it'll do absolutely nothing to convince anyone that she can be a current artist, or that she has any interest in being one in the first place. But even though I'm not sure this is what she should be performing, she still sings the hell out of it. Seriously, this is her best vocal in two weeks, and it's kind of crazy to think this could be her last performance.

-Usher calls her an amazing, talented artist, and says he couldn't be happier to hear her perform again, even though the circumstances aren't ideal. Shakira honestly doesn't know why Sisaundra is in the Bottom 4, and says it's kind of unfair, since she's so gifted and so special that she doesn't deserve to be at risk right now. Adam says that while this is called the "Bottom 4," it's not really a Bottom 4, it's just "The other four people who performed on Monday." Everyone is good, and Sisaundra is one of those amazing talents. Blake, meanwhile, is shocked to find Sisaundra in this position. He asks America to save Sisaundra, not-so-subtly throwing Audra under the bus.

AUDRA MCLAUGHLIN SINGS FOR THE INSTANT SAVE!

-Audra sings "Done" by The Band Perry, making this the second Band Perry song she's performed tonight. It's uptempo and has a bit of attitude, and THIS -- THIS is the Audra I've wanted to see for ages, not the boring crooner of obscure country ballads that Blake is trying to shape her into. This was SO GOOD. It was a great vocal, a great stage performance, and it felt current and relevant, and more true to who Audra is. Loved this.

-Shakira notes she's never seen this side of Audra before, and says, "For selfish reasons, I'd love for you to stay." Adam finds it surreal that these people are fighting for their lives, since he hears songs like what Audra just performed, and wonders how America has placed these singers at risk for elimination. Blake tells Audra she did amazing. "This sucks," he says, and tells America that she's not only a world-class vocalist, but an authentic country vocalist. He then pleads with America to save her. WHICH IS IT, BLAKE?!

KAT PERKINS SINGS FOR THE SAVE!

-Kat sings "Barracuda" by Heart, and it's a hell of a rock vocal. I'm torn because everyone is bringing it! I'm stunned at how good this is. I mean, not really though, since Kat is an exceptional rock vocalist. But she nails some truly spectacular runs here, and I find myself thinking, "Man, if it weren't a bottom four this week, she wouldn't be here right now." I fully expected her to break the Instant Save Curse, but I just don't see how she accomplishes that now, since America has never saved a singer twice. Of course, there's a first time for everything.

-Usher thinks Kat deserves to stay in this competition, while Adam declares that he believes Kat and Terry McDermott are the two best rock singers that have ever been on The Voice. He wants America to vote for her because we haven't had anyone carry the torch for rock music like her since Terry. So...is he bussing Delvin?

DELVIN CHOICE SINGS FOR THE SAVE!

-Delvin sings "Young Girls" by Bruno Mars, and well...it's certainly better than last night's performance. However, I think he seriously oversings it in parts, overdoing it on the runs to a positively obnoxious degree. Don't get me wrong, it's a decent vocal. But of the four sing-off performances, I felt this was the weakest one. It also felt like the shortest.

-Shakira says she's biased because Delvin has been one of her favorites since the start. She loved Delvin's performance just now. Meanwhile, Adam says America should save Delvin because nobody on Earth or in this galaxy sounds like Delvin. "It's of another world!" He says Delvin doesn't deserve to be in the bottom four, and neither does Kat.

-Now it's time for the Instant Save! Vote by using #VoiceSave followed by the name of the artist you want to save! Get to it!

-During the break, the vote totals reveal that...KAT IS IN THE LEAD?! Oh man, she might REALLY be the one who breaks the curse! She leads 35% to Audra's 27% right now, followed by Delvin and then Sisaundra in last, somewhat surprisingly.

FINAL RESULT

-As commercials end, Kat is still in the lead, although Audra is closing in on her. Still, I don't think there's nearly enough time or support for Audra to catch her. And as for Delvin and Sisaundra, their respective journeys are pretty much over.

-Blake says that he wouldn't trade a minute he's spent with Audra or Sisaundra, talking about what wonderful women they are, and what amazing singers. He says he's proud to have been a part of their journey.

-Adam, meanwhile, says he believes in both his contestants, and says he'll sell himself and do whatever they want if they stay. However, he notes that he made a promise to Kat that if she did what she did, America would save her, so now he's nervous. "I'm going to cry," Adam declares, drawing a lone "awww!" from an audience member.

-Carson reveals the result...

America Instantly Saves....KAT PERKINS!

DELVIN CHOICE, SISAUNDRA LEWIS, and AUDRA MCLAUGHLIN are eliminated from THE VOICE!

-THE STREAK IS OVER! Not only has an Instantly Saved singer lasted more than just one extra week, America has shown itself willing to save a previously saved singer again! Can Kat make it two extra weeks? Three? Could Kat go on to the FINALS?! This competition is getting wild!

-It's a shame that Sisaundra and Audra hit their respective peaks. One could argue that Delvin was always going to finish here, but I think Blake left tons of potential on the table by giving Sisaundra and Audra such lousy, outdated song picks, all while putting all his real energy and support behind Jake. It's tough all over, but I guess this is how The Voice cookie must crumble.

-So what did you think of the results? Did the right three acts go home? Did America save the right singer! Sound off in the comments! Also, keep checking back, as I'll be adding videos from tonight's show as soon as they become available. Until next week, thanks for hanging out, everyone!

GOODNIGHT!
