Vince Vaughn Joins Colin Farrell for 'True Detective' Season 2
Just days after Colin Farrell confirmed his casting in Season 2 of HBO's True Detective, the network has verified that not only is Farrell on-board, but Vince Vaughn is as well. In addition, the network has revealed several plot details about the eight-episode second season of the anthology series.
The plot for Season 2 will center on three police officers working with a criminal to help unravel a conspiracy stemming from a murder. Vaughn will play Frank Semyon, "a life-long criminal attempting to shift into honest work when the murder of a business partner threatens his newfound livelihood." Farrell, meanwhile, will play Ray Velcoro, "a detective caught in the middle of dealing with both corrupt police and the mob." They are the first two of the four leads to be announced, although we know some of the roles remaining to be filled: Ani Bezzerides is "a tough Monterey sheriff struggling with booze and gambling" while Paul Woodrugh is described only as "a military vet." The roles were rumored to go to Mad Men's Elisabeth Moss and Friday Night Lights star Taylor Kitsch, respectively, although neither actor has commented on the speculation, nor has HBO.
True Detective Season 2 will begin production later this fall in California. The series will depart from its "one writer/one director" model from Season 1: while series creator Nick Pizzolato will write all the scripts, only the first two episodes will have the same director. Fast & Furious filmmaker Justin Lin will take over the reins from Emmy winning helmer Cary Fukunaga, before handing over directing duties to whichever auteur the show hires next. Still, it should be an interesting two episodes simply for the flair Lin could bring to the production.
What do you think of the casting? And which two actors should fill the other two vacant roles? Sound off in the comments!
