VIDEO: Pennsylvania Student Suspended for Asking Miss America to Prom
A Pennsylvania teen is in hot water for...asking a girl to prom? Well, I may love my home state, but we do have a talent for hyperbolic overreaction. Although, to be fair, it wasn't like the teen asked just any girl.
Patrick Farves, 18, earned himself a three-day suspension for a stunt on Thursday in which he asked current Miss America Nina Davuluri to the prom in the midst of the beauty queen's speech in the school auditorium. Basically, Central York High School administrators cited Farves for “deliberately defying” instructions not to pulled the stunt after the administration caught wind of his plan, although why they didn't just bar him from attending in the first place is beyond me. Hormones embolden even the meekest of teens, never minding the ones who actually have gumption. The incident was caught on video:
"At that point in time, it was 10 minutes before the presentation, and I was pretty much set to do it," Farves told the York Dispatch. "I was a little pressured. Everybody expected me to do it. I'm the kind of person who, if someone says I won't do something, I'll prove people wrong. I will."
The big moment happened at the end of Davuluri's Q&A session, as Farves rushed the stage with a plastic flower in hand, not only asking her to prom, but also asking her to take a selfie with him. Davuluri replied, with a big smile, “Maybe later.” One wonders if perhaps a real flower would have gotten the job done.
If nothing else, Farves is understanding of how this whole mess has been a bit blown out of proportion.
"I do understand why the administration was mad," Farves continued. "I don't want to be the kind of person to try to justify myself ... I didn't intend to disrespect the administration. I can see how it was seen as a slap in the face."
Luckily, Farves can still go to prom. Hopefully, all the press will get him a date as classy as Davuluri.
"I want to give a shout out to Miss America for being a good sport," Farves said, displaying he's still a charmer. Here's hoping if he gets a date, the corsage consists of real flowers, and not plastic ones. Or worse: fried chicken.
