VIDEO: The New 'Jupiter Ascending' Trailer Is Basically Awesome
So the new trailer for Jupiter Ascending is live, and it's basically awesome. The new movie from the Wachowski siblings (the team that birthed The Matrix and Cloud Atlas unto the world) promises a crazy, intergalactic fable centering on a half-man/half-alien tasked with protecting the true queen of the planet from galactic assassins -- and also from a lifetime spent scrubbing toilets for a living. The flick stars Channing Tatum with the silliest looking pair of fake ears this side of Fred Armisen in a Barack Obama SNL sketch, and Mila Kunis as someone who isn't carrying Ashton Kutcher's baby. We even have Game of Thrones alum Sean Bean in his standard role as someone who's probably gonna die. It's good times all around!
Seriously though, this looks sensational: great visuals and a solid cast are one thing, but this looks and sounds like a classic, Star Wars-esque fable for a new age. The classic Joseph Campbell "Hero's Journey" structure is tailor-made for sci-fi/fantasy movies like this, and it's basically why my confidence in this project is so insanely high, even though the Wachowskis have always been a hit-or-miss duo. This is a blockbuster that could go either way, true. But I'm keeping faith it'll err on the side of awesome. Check out the full trailer below:
