VIDEO: 'The Equalizer' Pits Denzel Washington Against Gangsters

The trailer is here for The Equalizer, the action movie based on the 1980s television series of the same name. It stars Denzel Washington as a "former black ops commando who faked his death for a quiet life in Boston" who "comes out of his retirement to rescue a young girl and finds himself face to face with Russian gangsters." In short, it's more classic Denzel badassery, in the mold of Man on Fire, Training Day, The Book of Eli, and Inside Man. I'd say Denzel is doing his best Liam Neeson, and reinventing himself as an action hero, but the truth of the matter is that he's been in the action game far longer than Neeson, so I should probably say that Neeson is pulling a Denzel. But I think the preferable route would be to just say that both men kick ass, and should probably team up for a movie one of these days (and preferably soon). If nothing else, Liam Neeson also has experience in big screen adaptations of 1980s TV series.

The movie also stars Chloe Grace Moretz, and Oscar winner Melissa Leo. All told, it looks like a damn solid cast for an action flick that is aiming to be above your average fare. The movie doesn't release until September 26, but you can check out the full trailer below:
