VIDEO: Elton John Thinks Jesus Would Support Gay Marriage
Jesus would have been all about gay marriage. At least according to Sir Elton John.
Sir Elton, who intends to marry filmmaker David Furnish within the year, said as much in an interview with Sky News that occurred on the same weekend as the London Pride parade: "If Jesus Christ was alive today, I cannot see him, as the Christian person that he was and the great person that he was, saying this could not happen."
The singer added, "He was all about love and compassion and forgiveness and trying to bring people together. And that is what the Church should be about."
However, Sir Elton made it clear that he doesn't intend to condemn the Church. Quite the opposite, as he feels the Church deserves credit for all the progress it has made in advancing a basic, uncomplicated message of love. In particular, he credits the Archbishop of Canterbury and Pope Francis, the latter of whom he described as a "wonderful" man. And that's not all he has to say, as he talks about his own upcoming nuptials, and discusses Vladimir Putin and other opponents to gay equality. It's a fascinating interview, and you can watch the full video below:
