VIDEO: 2014 Scripps National Spelling Bee ends with a tie between Sriram Hathwar and Ansun Sujoe

The 2014 Scripps National Spelling Bee ended with a tie between Sriram Hathwar and Ansun Sujoe.

This is the first time we've had co-champions since 1962.

Congratulations!

I love the spelling bee!

The 87th annual event was held outside Washington, DC had 281 competitors aged 8 to 15.

The contest ran out of words to spell!

The last word spelled correctly by Ansun was "feuilleton" which made he and Sriram co-champions. What a night!

At one point both Sriram and Ansun spelled their words incorrectly which extended the match.

During the interview, they were both very gracious and happy to share the trophy. Sriram said that going in they both knew that they were competing against the dictionary not each other.

Arvind Mahankali won last year.
