VH1 Cancels 'Best Week Ever' for a Second Time
For the second time in its off-again/on-again lifespan, Best Week Ever has been canceled by VH1.
The show, which was a weekly comedic commentary on pop culture, aired on Friday nights, making it a small miracle it even lasted this long. When Best Week Ever premiered in 2004, it followed the "talking heads" format of popular VH1 specials such as "I Love the ," and featured a varied array of comedians including Rachael Harris, Rob Huebel, Patton Oswalt, Nick Kroll, Pete Holmes, Melissa Rauch, Mo Rocca, Jessica St. Clair, Judah Friedlander and Paul Scheer. It eventually switched over to a single-host format with Paul F. Tompkins in 2008, a move which lasted only two years, as the show was canceled in 2010. However, it was resurrected and returned to airwaves in January 2013, providing comedians with yet another potential launching platform. Well, until now, anyway.
“Best Week Ever was a pioneer in pop culture commentary on television when it launched in 2004, delivering its signature blend of comedy and tongue-in-cheek opinions on the most entertaining news and pop culture stories of the previous seven days,” VH1 said in a statement. “The series also served as a national launching pad for many talented creatives and comedians. We thank them, and the viewers who tuned in each week.”
So let us mourn what was basically a hit-or-miss show anyway. And while we're at it, we can wonder about when VH1 is going to bring back the "I Love the..." specials. This world needs more Hal Sparks and Michael Ian Black.
