'Veep' renewed by HBO for a third season

After pulling in series-high numbers in its second season, Veep has been renewed by HBO for a third.

Though some are attributing the ratings bump to the show's strong Game of Thrones lead-in, the fact remains that the series has been doing stellar numbers for the network, particularly for a comedy.

The political comedy stars Julia Louis-Dreyfus as a U.S. Vice President who struggles to be taken seriously. The most recent episode scored a series-high 1.3 million viewers on Sunday, following Game of Thrones' series-high 5.3 million. It's one of TV's most unlikely pairings, a fantasy epic and a political comedy, yet it undoubtedly works for the premium cable network.

The third season of Veep, like the second season, will feature ten episodes.
