After suffering a near-tragedy earlier this week, Usher has broken his silence to commend the men responsible for saving the day.

"I would like to thank my Aunt Rena as well as the doctors and nurses who are working with us around the clock. I would especially like to thank the two men who saved my son's life, Eugene Stachurski and Ben Crews," Usher said in a statement. "They are true heroes and I am deeply grateful to them."

On Monday, the R&B singer's 5-year-old son, Usher Raymond V, nearly drowned when his arm got caught in a pool drain after the child attempted to retrieve a toy. Neither the maid nor the boy's Aunt Rena were able to free him. However, two male employees working inside the house jumped into the pool and managed to pull the boy to safety, giving him CPR while medics rushed to the singer's home to take the boy to the hospital.

"I am blessed and fortunate to say that my son Usher V is doing well and is recovering," the statement read. "I am overwhelmed by the outpouring of prayers, love and support for my family's well-being,"

Usher Raymond V is the singer's eldest son by ex Tameka Foster. On Tuesday, Foster reportedly requested an emergency hearing to regain primary custody of their two children, including 4-year-old Naviyd Ely.

"Now that it's sunk in, she is livid," a source told PEOPLE. "Usher has custody and won't let Tameka have the kids, even when he's out of town. She feels like the kids are being raised by his family or by nannies, when they should be with their mother."

On Wednesday, Foster revealed over Twitter that 5-year-old Usher Raymond V was "talking and asking for food."

"He's going to be just fine," added the source. "The doctors are taking every precaution to make sure he's okay, because they're worried about dry drowning. But the danger looks like it has passed."
