Usher, 5 Seconds of Summer to Perform at MTV VMAs 2014
The MTV VMAs are still quite a ways away (hell, we don't even have nominees yet), but we're starting to get confirmation on what's sure to be a packed lineup of performers. And at the top of that list are a longtime VMA vet, and one of the year's hottest new acts.
Usher and 5 Seconds of Summer have been added to the list of performers for the MTV Video Music Awards 2014 on Sunday, Aug. 24, at 9:00 PM ET/PT. The show will emanate from Inglewood, CA, in the recently remodeled venue, The Forum.
This will be Usher's first performance on the show in three years. However, this will mark the VMA debut for the Australian boy band, as 5 Seconds of Summer is looking to make a splash after the release of their debut album on July 22. The boys made the news official on their Twitter account:
were performing at the @MTV VMAs in August! to be asked & given this opportunity's incredible, we cant be more excited about it :D #5SOSVMAs

Usher and 5SOS join previously announced performer Ariana Grande, who will be making her debut on the main stage this year after performing at the red carpet pre-show last year. All in all, this is shaping up to be an even bigger, and more youth-skewed, ceremony than last year's massively successful show, which has a 66% increase in viewership over the previous year. This year might not have as staggering a year-to-year improvement, but it wouldn't be surprising if the show did more overall viewers than last year, especially if they continue to add buzzworthy, youth-drawing acts like 5SOS.
