USA Network Picks Up Alien Invasion Pilot from 'Lost' EP Carlton Cuse

Out goes Falling Skies, in comes Colony.

A little more than a week after TNT announced that the next season of Falling Skies would be its last, USA Network confirmed in a press release that it would be picking up an alien invasion drama pilot of its own from Carlton Cuse, executive producer of Lost, Bates Motel, and The Strain.

Colony, also from co-executive producer Ryan Condal (Hercules), is set in a futuristic Los Angeles that has been invaded by alien forces. While some humans are more than willing to welcome their new alien overlords, others rebel with the hopes of restoring the status quo, forsaking the benefits of compliance. Thus, a new society is built on top of a populace that is divided down the middle between those accepting the aliens, and those in open rebellion against them. The story centers on a family torn apart by this ideological division.

“Colony is a gripping story that brilliantly weaves together an intense family drama in an authentic, yet unknown, world,” said USA Network president Chris McCumber in the statement. “We are pleased to be in business with Ryan Condal and Carlton Cuse, who is clearly one of the best in the industry when it comes to genre fiction.”

I'll reserve judgment until we see some footage or hear some casting news, but this show actually has one of the more interesting premises for a sci-fi show I've seen in some time, since it's more character-driven than plot-driven. It could be a unique show, especially for a network that has rarely, if ever, ventured into this genre before.
