Once Upon A Time in Wonderland - Recap - Episode 7 - Bad Blood

This week, we're learning a little more about why Jafar is the way that he is. In a series of flashbacks, Jafar makes a startling discovery as an orphan: The Sultan is his father.

Over in Wonderland, Jafar has a new plan up his sleeve. Now that his hair is curled once again, it's one less thing for him to worry about. Jafar brings Alice's father and his mustache to Wonderland. After snatching some blood and stuffing him in a cage, Jafar whips up his own brand of Polyjuice Potion to pose as Alice's father.

Jafar stages a run in with Alice and Will to try and manipulate Alice's relationship with him. The duo were busy trying to craft a hot air balloon up out of a magical tree that just so happened to be there. They were attempting to fly on up to Jafar's castle to find Cyrus when Fake Father showed up.

It's not long before Alice realizes that Jafar is an impostor and he decides good old blackmail is the better way to go. He dangles Alice's father over a cliff in an attempt to make her use one of her wishes. Before he is dropped, Alice's father manages to let her know that Cyrus has escaped. Alice uses her second wish to send her father back home but it comes at a price: he believes the entire trip, and Alice's forgiveness, was a dream.

In the flashback, Jafar goes to the Sultan to introduce himself. The Sultan wants nothing to do with him and forbids him to call him "Father". He already has a son but allows Jafar to remain in the palace as a servant. He's a great guy. He allows Jafar to be smacked around and then when Jafar dares to speak, the Sultan drowns him and throws him into the trash.
Jafar, of course, doesn't die, and goes to visit his father in Wonderland.

Jafar's father is the other prisoner in the cage! I did not see that coming. Why did I think he was another genie?
