Universal TV Adapting Stephen King's 'Ayana'

First Under the Dome, now Ayana?

That looks to be the case, as Universal TV is adapting Stephen King's short story Ayana into a drama series. The story, first published in 2007, centers on a collection of characters possessing unexplained magical abilities that cause incredible changes in their lives. In short, this already sounds like a much more natural fit for an ongoing TV drama series than Under the Dome, which had more of a limited scope to it.

Chris Sparling (the man behind the Ryan Reynolds thriller, Buried) will script the pilot, while Jordan Kerner (The Mighty Ducks, of all things) will serve as executive producer, with Ben Haber (Across the Universe) producing.

No network has been announced for the show, but NBC is reportedly considering the project. NBC could certainly use more high-profile projects, particularly with the pedigree of a Stephen King behind it. Hell, it worked out pretty nicely for CBS with Under the Dome, which premieres its second season this summer.
