United States Wins Women's Soccer Gold - London 2012 Olympics - Results

The United States and Japan battled it out in a low scoring game that came down to the final seconds at the London 2012 Olympics.  In the end, it would be Team USA who would capture gold in the Women's Soccer final.

Here are your game details and medal results:

Carli Lloyd put the U.S. on top 1-0 at the eight minute mark with a spectacular header into the net.  Japan would outpace the United States in terms of shots on goal for the rest of the first half, but controversial figure Hope Solo made some fantastic saves to keep the score 1-0 in the first half.

It would be Lloyd again in the second half, who would put the United States up 2 goals to none 54 minutes into the match.  However, Japan would answer back when Yuki Ogimi scored at the 63 minute mark.

Perhaps the deciding moment of the match would come late in the second half, when Japan had a one on one shot at goal and Solo once again saved the day.  Japan would never get another chance quite as good and the final score would be 2-1 in favor of the United States.

This game was certainly a nail biter!  Solo has sure been making waves running her mouth, but tonight she came up big for the U.S. along with Lloyd who scored both of the U.S. goals.  Great play by both teams!

Canada defeated France earlier in the day to win the bronze.

Results:

Gold: United States

Silver: Japan

Bronze: Canada

Congratulations to all the medal winners!
