United States Wins Gold - Women's 4x200 Freestyle Relay - London 2012 Olympics - Medal Results
Led by 200m Freestyle Gold medalist Alison Schmitt, the U.S. relay team won the gold medal in the Women's 4x200 Freestyle Relay at the London 2012 Olympics.
Team USA was heavily favored to win in this event, but after trailing to Australia for the first three legs, it looked like an upset might be in order. However, it didn't take long for Schmitt to catch and then overtake her opponent. In spite of starting the anchor leg with a deficit, Schmitt pulled ahead by a full body length and touched the wall almost 1.5 seconds ahead of the Australian swimmer, setting a new Olympic Record in the process.
What an impressive performance by Alison Schmitt! Teen phenom Missy Franklin picks up her second gold medal of the London games and third medal overall. She swam the first leg of the relay.
Results:
Gold: United States
Silver: Australia
Bronze: France
Congratulations to all the medalists!
