Ugly Betty - The Past Presents the Future - Recap

Everyone's taking a step forward and making a change this week. And I mean everyone. Amanda quit her job and is spending all her time hanging out with her super gay but super awesome first client. Still lonely after the big Gio shakeup from her previous week in London (I miss you already Gio), Betty asks Daniel to be her date to Hilda's wedding. Unaware however that she already drunkenly invited Henry. Henry's thrilled and can't wait to go because as luck would have it, he's on his way to NYC with his kid for a job interview. He's moving back to New York. Yay Henry. He always seemed like a nice guy. I think he always meant well when it came to Betty. They show a picture of them together from season 1 and I can't believe how far we've come. They've changed so much.
Betty gets a huge job offer from the same guy she turned down in London. He wants her to help run a magazine with him back in England. It's a big opportunity but Betty can't imagine herself away from her family, newly NY bound Henry, and the job she's become so comfortable with. Daniel brings out his douchey colors and gives Henry a bad recommendation for his job. He thinks Betty is moving backwards and apparently costing a father his job is a way to smack some sense into Betty. Yeah, whatever Daniel. I'm not liking you this episode mainly because I don't like the way you're looking at Betty. Just stop it! Betty's still a free agent though when she and Henry admit that things aren't the same as they were three years ago. It's not the right time for them. They're better off as friends. Aww.
Willie is still doing what she does best and manipulating Tyler. She has it in her head that messing with a depressed alcoholic is a good idea. Not so. But she wants what she wants. And what she wants is to buy Tyler's shares of the company from him once she convinces him to get them. He shows up drunk in Claire's office and does some demanding and blackmailing. Things aren't looking good. Claire can smell Willie's hand in this and confronts her. It doesn't take long before the two of them are battling it out in a pool of water. They're clutching eachother's weaves and ripping off clothes. It's really quite the spectacle. You still look good Vanessa. Things take another turn for the worst when Tyler finds a gun in Wilhelmina's apartment. He shows up while Wilhelmina is trying to warn Claire and puts the gun up. He gets emotional and the gun goes off just as Wilhelmina steps in front of Claire. Gasp! I don't like cliffhangers! I hope he hit a purse or something.
Things are still in awkwardville with Justin and Austin. He's not hiding the fact that he's spending every moment with Austin but he is hiding why. He finally admits to Marc that Austin is his boyfriend. Yay!! Embrace it! So exciting. Marc was looking pretty hot in that scene too. Anyway, Justin is worried that Bobby is gonna tell his family what he walked in on but Bobby's a good guy. He's a man of his word but it doesn't matter. Hilda realizes what's going on and she's thrilled. She's telling everyone and throwing a party. No, really. The entire family shows up for a surprise Coming Out party for Justin. That's just terrible! I don't know where they got all those rainbows. Does Party City have a gay pride section? Marc agrees and shows up in a flash of style to stop the whole thing. It's a good thing that the family is so happy and accepting but it's not a good thing that they're so crazy. Mental notes people.
Hilda's wedding to Bobby is finally here. She's a gorgeous bride and everyone is happy to be there. Betty and Daniel both show up alone and Daniel throws a couple of lovey stares in her direction. Ugh. They then share a dance together. Double ugh. I hope they realize they're better off as best friends. Austin comes to the wedding with Justin and he's still feeling the stress. After a nice chat with Marc, he realizes the feeling of relief would be a better one. He takes Austin's hand and they join everyone on the dance floor and share a dance. Everyone shares a smile and it's a nice ending.
Again, I really enjoyed this episode. My mouth dropped on more than one occasion so that's always a good thing. I laughed out loud when Marc said "Hey! Nice jeans! They really make your package pop." And I was really surprised when they brought back the Amanda/Unknown father storyline with the tattoo. The last episode is next week :( How do you guys think it will end now that Betty has accepted the job? Will she end up with Daniel? Or will she end up alone as an independent career girl. They already did that fake out after Gio so you have to wonder..
