Ugly Betty - London Calling - Recap

Hilda's wedding to Bobby is fast approaching and it's up to Betty to come up with an amazing bachelorette party. Unable to come up with something that doesn't suck, (I mean really, they live in NYC. It's not that hard to find a strip club somewhere) Daniel helps out and hands over his tickets to London's Fashion Week. Hilda, Betty and Amanda make their way across the pond for their own drunken adventure. A lovely pleasant surprise for us viewers, the girls meet up with Christina, who's a fashion big shot now. Leaving Mode was scary but she followed her dream and she's living happily ever after with her husband and son. Awww. It's so nice to see Christina again. I missed her crazy accent. Christina inspires Amanda to follow her own styling dream and she announces that she's quitting Mode. But who will answer the phones?? Betty goes off to work while Hilda and Christina take in the sights and Amanda molests a Royal Guard.

Tyler, Claire, and Daniel are still clashing and trying to get along. Wilhelmina, never one to miss an opportunity, senses Tyler's vulnerability and leaps into action. Willie grabs a sweater from Kmart and enrolls herself in Alcoholics Anonymous. Oh, what do you know? It's Tyler's AA meeting too. What a coincidence. Willie becomes Tyler's sponsor and wins him over with her words. It's her mission to come between Tyler and his family and plant as many ideas in their heads as possible. A tiger never changes it's stripes, just it's sweater. She convinces Tyler that Daniel and Claire are threatened by him and want to pay him to disappear. He believes her, gets drunk, and beats the crap out of Daniel and a couple bodyguards outside of a club. Looks like round one goes to Willie.

Justin is taking one step closer to accepting who he is and is spending a lot more time with Austin. He feels it's time for their first real date because all they do is sit around and play xbox. (LOL at Justin playing with one finger and his legs crossed. So fierce.) They make a date but Bobby gets in the way. He wants to bond with Justin before the wedding but Justin isn't interested. Aww, I'll hang out with you Bobby. Bobby tries everything from Beyonce tickets to a good old fashioned chat but nothing works. He decides to try one more time to convince Justin to hang out with him but instead walks in on Justin and Austin kissing on the porch. Eek. Justin, if you wanted to keep that a secret, I wouldn't have kissed out in the open, on your porch, when your grandpa and future step dad are home. Justin begs a flabbergasted Bobby to keep this between them and Bobby agrees.

Through a friend of Christina's, Betty is offered a new job as a high profile fashion columnist back in New York and she excitedly agrees to an interview. Time to celebrate Betty! Let's go flash a random stranger at the bar! Betty lets her flags fly only to realize the guy who's getting the Suarez peep show is none other then her ex boyfriend. Gio!! It's Gio! Everyone's favorite sandwich man is back and this time he's wearing leather. Grrrowl. He invites Betty to sight see with him and they take a romantic stroll complete with some classic flirting. Betty calls him out on it and he tells her that he's engaged. Aww :( Gio's engaged to a baker. I bet they make good bread together. You snooze you lose Betty :(

Gio is to Betty what Jess was to Rory on Gilmore Girls. The one person they needed to snap them out of their comfort zone. Gio makes Betty see that she's not really following her passion in life. She could take the job in New York and she'd be comfortable, but she wouldn't be following her dream. She decides to devote more time to her blog and is pretty content because she doesn't realize what other drunken antics occurred on her London trip. She leaves a wedding invitation voicemail to her ex boyfriend. Not Gio. HENRY. Oh boy. Did her and Matt ever even officially break up?

I loved this episode. It was a lot of fun seeing so many familiar faces. It really makes me miss the show. I also really crave a sandwich after all those Gio scenes. Freddy Rodríguez, you should totally come back to New York. I'd love to make up for my embarrassing encounter with you. I promise this time I won't stutter.
