Ugly Betty - Chica and the Man - Recap

Instead of spending the break enjoying the awesomeness of this past season, Ugly Betty fans spend it in mourning upon the news of the series cancellation. Can we dwell on that? Hell no! This episode brings the fierce in so many ways that it just makes me feel superior because I have better taste than ABC. But who's bitter? Not me. Not when this episode brings Wilheldiva Hater, a drag queen impersonator of Willie who is all sorts of fabulous.
This episode starts off with a blessing. Daniel has finally shaved. Hallelujah. Someone also praising the Gods is Betty who has won an award for her blog by an organization called BLOB. The jokes just write themselves there and Marc sure snatches on to them. Daniel tries to help Betty out with her flustered interview with BLOB but instead ends up confirming a lot of her insecurities. I feel like she took it way too much to heart. Daniel was just teasing how she used to behave and Betty uses this as an excuse to embarrass Daniel at a meeting. Even if Daniel is a dog, she comes off a little harsh and spiteful in a situation where being professional should be her number one priority. Shame on you Betty.
Wilhelmina isn't happy when she finds out she has a drag queen impersonator with their own show. Her, Marc, and Claire show up to check out the show and are stunned by what they see. Wilheldiva Hater (played by Vanessa Williams' real life brother) is hilarious and almost as fierce. He's a man-eater baby. Willie is not impressed and demands he shut down the show at once. He visits her at Mode and begs her to reconsider. When Daniel mistakes Wilheldiva for Willie, she decides to keep Miss Hater around for awhile. She offers him a new opportunity to impersonate her doing the mundane parts of her job she'd rather not bother with. Things like charity and being considerate. It works and i'm not entirely sure whether she should be offended or not that she gets mistaken for a drag queen.
Instead of confronting Daniel to his face, Betty uses her blog to vent her frustrations. Yeah that'll end well. Once it's on the internet Betty it's out there for all to see. Of course it backfires and her rant gets picked up by dozens of media outlets all ready to pick Daniel to pieces. Yikes. The look on Daniel's face when he sees it is half angry half hurt. Trust me, that face is easy to feel bad for when it's clean shaven. It's a media firestorm for Daniel who is now being harassed by everyone from Perez to the New York Times. Him and Betty have a harsh exchange of words and their friendship takes a serious hit slash reality check.
Daniel, who originally was set to present Betty with her award has been replaced by Wilhelmina. Or..Wilheldiva in this case. Daniel realizes even if he didn't mean to, he was actually a grade A douche to Betty. I laughed out loud when Amanda called him a douche to his face. Daniel shows up to the BLOB ceremony to try and apologize and gets pelted with burritos for his trouble. Ouch. Would a taco have hurt less? They reach an understanding when Daniel admits he's intimidated by Betty and Betty realizes what he said was pretty much true anyway. Ahh petty fights of friendship.
Willie shows up to shut down Wilheldiva's final performance and instead decides to show us all how it's done. OMG Vanessa Williams drag performance is awesome! Holy crap she shows off her bod and her pipes. Amazing. Now that's a man-eater boys. With her new appreciation for Miss Hater, she gifts him a fabulous new wardrobe and the knowledge that she will be joining him on stage sometime in the future. Bring Marc with you and i'll be a ridiculously happy camper. Michael Urie what do you say?? Please? :)
