Ugly Betty - Blackout! - Recap

Ugly Betty Blackout 01-2010-01-20.jpg

(Here's Noelle's recap of tonight's episode of Ugly Betty "Blackout!")

It's lights out on Ugly Betty as everyone struggles with how they are seen by others. Betty plans a karaoke party to try and get to know her neighbors, Amanda tries to remedy the tension between Daniel and Wilhelmina, and Hilda tries to get Ignacio and Bobby to play nice. This week is such a rollercoaster ride of emotions that I felt myself smiling and frowning at precise intervals.

After the sudden departure of Matt, Betty is feeling increasingly lonely and decides the time is right to put herself out there and get to know her neighbors. And what's the best way to make new friends? Karaoke of course! While handing out flyers to her upcoming shindig, Betty being the cheery girl that she is, lets a couple of people into the building. She inadvertently pisses off everyone in the building when those same two people end up robbing the place. Yikes. That's gonna put a damper on her party. Marc's laptop gets stolen in the process and he proceeds to hyperventilate. He does it in the best way as he's able to make his hair not move. I love Marc's curls. They're so spunky.

Wilhelmina hasn't given up on her crusade to get Marc back as her assistant causing the bickering between her and Daniel to reach a boiling point. Amanda takes it upon herself to trick the two of them into couples counseling. Uhh. Before I tackle that one, why does Daniel still have that beard? I thought Marc forced him to shave that demonic fuzz last week? Anywho, the counselor convinces Daniel that Wilhelmina is interested in Daniel and the trouble will last as long as the sexual tension does. Daniel's way of diffusing the sexual tension is acting like a creeper, kissing Willie, and getting himself punched in the face.

Betty tries to make it up to her neighbors by installing an electronic lock on the apartment door. Next on that list is Marc who's been trying to land an editor's job for some time now. Betty makes sure to do everything in her power to help Marc recreate the project he lost with his laptop. Seemingly satisfied, her neighbors show up to her previously canceled karaoke party and Betty belts it out. A major power outage in the city leaves Betty's party guests blessed with silence and Daniel and Wilhelmina trapped in an elevator with their sexual tension. Oh goody. The outage causes everyone in the building to be trapped thanks to the newly purchased electronic lock. That's irony at its worst.

Marc starts freaking out and pacing in anger at the universe for constantly pooping on his head. I love the Beetlejuice pants he's wearing. I swear Adam Lambert wore those on Idol. Bobby uses his sexy thug skills to get Betty and Marc out of the building and they make their way to Meade. It's quite the journey for them and the viewers. I love when Betty and Marc bond. They're always my favorite moments. Get gushy Marc! After going home defeated, Marc goes to work in the morning to find that Wilhelmina has indeed awarded him the job. Woohoo!

Ignacio still doesn't trust Bobby or want him in Hilda's life. I hope he proves him wrong because with all the other men that have been leaving this show I really need Bobby to stick around. However, the two of them reach an understanding after Ignacio smacks Bobby in the nose with a frying pan during the blackout. It's family bonding at its best. The family continues to bond as everyone, minus Justin, head to Hilda's ultrasound appointment. The writers continue to play serial killer to my emotions as we find out that there is no heartbeat on the ultrasound. In a heartbreaking scene, the family is forced to feign happiness for Justin, who doesn't know about the baby, when he gets the part in a play he wanted. Will Justin ever find out?
