Ugly Betty - Back In Her Place - Recap

Ugly Betty Back In her Place Recap 01-2010-01-13.jpg

(Here's Noelle's recap of tonight's episode of Ugly Betty: Back In Her Place)

No one is having a good week on this episode of Ugly Betty. In fact I was rather sad by the end of it. Betty recounts her awful week to her landlord hoping for some sympathy, Bobby tries to make Hilda's week fantastic, and Willie tries to make this a week she'll never forget.

Betty's been feeling pigeonholed in the pieces she's offered to write at Mode. Writing about heels and hair care doesn't float her boat like it obviously should. She wants to have the opportunity to write about things that are inspirational to others. Wilhelmina slams that idea and instead forces Betty to test some scary heels and skin and hair products which only succeed in making Betty look like a limping rash with an afro. With the encouragement of Matt and Hilda, Betty starts her own blog so she's able to write whatever she wants. That can only lead to positive things right?

Hilda is frustrated, cranky and stressed now that she's faced with having to raise another child. I don't blame her. I wouldn't wanna do it either. Bobby takes it upon himself to pamper Hilda for a week. So cute. He tries giving her picnic lunches and taking her to see Ace of Base. Do they really still tour? Unfortunately, none of these things work out. The fails are okay however, because Hilda sees that Bobby is willing to be there for her and even take care of Justin. Aww sweet.

Over in sub-plot land, Marc isn't being the greatest assistant to Daniel lately. Conscious of the fact that Wilhelmina wants Marc back as her assistant, Daniel becomes convinced that Marc is trying to sabotage him by messing up meetings, forgetting lunches, and changing the locations of Daniel's outings. Marc's a good guy though and he's actually trying to help Daniel out...in his own way. By forgetting Daniel's lunch he's helped him slim down, by changing the locations of Daniel's meetings he's gotten him photographed by paparazzi, and by spilling coffee on Daniel he's helped him look good while doing it. Makes perfect sense right? Marc has one last genius plan and that is putting a wad of gum in Daniel's beard so he has to shave. Amen.

Wilhelmina is still enjoying daily visits with Connor but he's starting to push her away. He urges her to go on and live her life outside the prison walls. Willie isn't having any of that so she announces that they are getting married instead and she's not taking no for an answer. He agrees. Yay! More Connor always please. The writers, however, apparently have some sort of agenda against me or my recaps. When Wilhelmina shows up at the prison in her dress ready to marry Connor, a guard tells her that he's been transferred to another prison and he can't tell her where. Wilhelmina is devastated and we're treated to some A+ acting by Vanessa Williams. Willie's broken heart only hurts more because she knows inside it was his decision to leave. It looks like he did indeed lie and was not transferred at all. It seems like it was hard for him to do but I'm still confused as to his reasoning. Release Connor :(

Betty is enjoying her new blog and writing about things that inspire. She's been using her old apartment that Amanda moved out of to hold interviews for writing subjects. One woman does charity work in Africa and Betty and Matt are so touched by her story. Matt especially, who announces his plans to follow in her footsteps and leave to do charity work in Africa. For six months. Sigh. I hate when sitcoms send their characters away. If Betty ends up cheating on Matt with Daniel or something I'm gonna puke. They say their tearful goodbyes and it's the final nail in the coffin of this tearfest of an episode.
