'Twilight Saga' Returning With Five New Short Films
The Twilight Saga was among the most lucrative film franchises of the last decade, producing five massively successful feature-length films, and making Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson household names. It's been two years since the release of the final film in the series, Breaking Dawn -- Part 2. However, the franchise is far from dead.
Film studio Lionsgate will team up with Facebook to create five short films based on characters from the Twilight Saga. Although none of the shorts will star the original cast of the main franchise films, the short films will have some promising creative minds behind them. A group of female panelists will select a director for each film from a list of five up-and-coming female directors in a panel series titled The Storytellers — New Creative Voices of 'The Twilight Saga'.
And this panel isn't comprised of nobodies: in addition to Oscar winners Kate Winslet and Octavia Spencer, and Emmy winner Julie Bowen, the panel will include Twilight director Catherine Hardwicke, producer Cathy Schulman, Frozen co-director Jennifer Lee, and Bella Swan herself, Kristen Stewart. The Storytellers — New Creative Voices of 'The Twilight Saga' is expected to premiere on Facebook in 2015.
This is reportedly only the tip of the iceberg for Lionsgate's partnership with Facebook, as more projects are expected to be announced at a future point. It's looking like 2015 could see a considerable number of lucrative projects for the two companies.
