TV Land Cancels 'Hot In Cleveland'
TV Land is closing the curtain on its first original series.
The network has canceled Hot In Cleveland, announcing that the sixth season will be its last.
"After five incredible seasons of Hot in Cleveland, the sixth season, currently in production, will be its last," the official statement reads. "It’s been an honor to work with Valerie Bertinelli, Jane Leeves, Wendie Malick and the incomparable Betty White as well as our executive producers Suzanne Martin, Todd Milliner, Sean Hayes and the rest of our exceptional writers, production team and crew. The passion and talent they brought to the set each and every week over the past 5 years has put TV Land on the map as a network dedicated to quality original programming. We will continue to celebrate the show and are looking forward to a fantastic series finale."
The series, which centers on three washed-out Hollywood vets (Valerie Bertinelli, Jane Leeves, and Wendie Malick) who lease a home in Cleveland with a sassy caretaker (Betty White), premiered in June 2010 to monster ratings. The series premiere was the highest-rated telecast in TV Land history at the time, and would go on to earn several award nominations -- and wins. The series landed an Emmy for Outstanding Art Direction for a Multi-Camera Series in 2011, and a Supporting Actress nomination for White. Although White didn't win, she would go on to win at the Screen Actors Guild Awards.
The sixth and final season premiered on November 5th, and will consist of 24 episodes. However, an air date has not been announced for the series finale just yet. But it's great to see that the show is getting a chance to end properly. Hell, it's great to see when any show that's been on the air for this long get a proper ending. Not all sitcoms get to have that kind of closure, and I think the show could create some moving farewell moments. If nothing else, it could provide White another chance to win an award for what's been a terrific role for her.
